Are there any decent wireless, desktop (portability isn't really a concern), powered speakers that I could use with my MacBook Pro that you guys would recommend? The laptop is current vintage, so Bluetooth is available, as is my wireless network if that makes any difference. Let's put the emphasis on power and sound quality over light weight and a small footprint. Something in the sub-$200 range would be ideal, but if you know of a particular solution that offers substantially more product for only a little more money, I'd certainly be willing to listen. TIA.

The Jawbone JAMBOX comes immediately to mind. There's also a few different Creative and Logitech speakers. And a number of less expensive speakers. I don't really have any experience with any, although, like you, I've been looking around for something similar (just way less pricey than $200).

The thing to understand is that anything of this nature will be limited by its size. They will be compact (both to limit desktop space and for portability), they'll likely have rechargeable batteries, and although some will sound better than others, they still won't sound as good as quality shelf or floor or "gaming" speakers.

If space or the ability to take the speakers with you isn't an issue, it might be better to find a good set of desktop speakers and simply add a Bluetooth receiver. Plug it in to any set of speakers or stereo with a headphone sized axillary jack, and sync it, and you're good to go. They're designed as portable rechargeable units, but you can simply keep it plugged in and tucked away.

Thanks for the tip on the Jambox, Aaron. That also led me to the BigJambox. :D

A couple others I've run across that look promising include the NuForce S3-BT http://amazon.nuforce-icon.com/Nuforce-S3BT-Wireless-Bluetooth-Loudspeaker-Black/M/B009POYA6C.htm (brand new release but uses the latest and greatest apt-X Bluetooth codec, might want to wait a bit for the price to come down on that one) and the Audyssey Audio Dock Air http://www.audyssey.com/products/audio-dock-airplay (this device uses AirPlay rather than Bluetooth). It also sounds like most folks are pretty happy with the Creative T-12 speakers in the sub-$100 market. http://www.amazon.com/Creative-T12-Wireless-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B00408GUNY
