I have a Buck Custom 110 with a damaged scale...It was listed as "Oak" and I have no doubt it is...

...But my last ex-wife threw out all my custom hardwood scraps (and my pieces of steel/aluminum/etc) and I'm no expert on wood...(and my favorite lumber mill has closed up :( )...

So...Can anyone tell me what this piece of wood is??? It's from a shelf in my living room...(I don't need no stinking shelves!!!:grumpy: )...

Thank You! ;)

...That sure looks like oak to me Trax...I just looked at our oak entertainment center from up in Wisconsin ( I had it made 25 years ago ) and it looks identical...

LOOKS Like White Oak. (If the color is true) Your handles may have been red or white oak, but you can stain them to be pretty darn close to each other.

In Red Oak, the pores are very open and will allow liquids to quickly soak up through the wood. You can split off a small section and actually blow bubbles with it! White Oak produces tylose in the pores which restricts fluid movement making White Oak more proper for use in outdoor structures.

If you're planning on stabilizing it, red oak will stabilize more thoroughly...

Oh, yeah, red oak looks red, white oak looks white :)

...hmmmm...I noticed our dining room set is oak too...Ya get so used to sittin' around the table you ferget to look at it sometimes...Lotsa scale material here that's fer sure...LOL...

Thank you all! Oak it is! And Oak it shall be! (the knife!) :)

Say, DarrylS...What other pieces of furniture you got??? Any Mahogany?? :p

Oh, man!!! There was a console TV in the neighbor's garbage last Friday!!! I should have grabbed that!!! (Or at least knocked a piece off)...I gotta start paying more attention to garbage...

...hmmm...cut off all the legs...drop it down and...........EUREKA!!!...Japanese cuisine ... but I hate "Sue'ssheeee" ...LOL...:barf: :barf:

many of the old console tv's were made of cheery pecan walnut and other fine woods .. good sorce of preamum wood
personaly i like chestnut... rot resistant so you dont have to worry if wet..

That's why I mentioned Mahogany...My dad used to work with wood; I remember him rebuilding a deck on a cabin cruiser with Mahogany...

I was planning on visiting DarrylS this Summer...I'l make sure to bring along a saw... ;)

I was on my way to get some groceries, so I took a piece of this Oak with me to my local Bikers Bar to try that out... :)

Unfortunately, I couldn't suck a beer through the wood... :(

...But three different guys did come up and stick dollar bills in my pants...

I can see Trax going into the bar saying he wants to blow bubbles.

"My name's Wrench, not ...".

LOL
