any Xbox repair gurus?

I got the the red light (bottom left) and ER 74 error, so - since it's a modded Xbox that I bought used so Microsoft won't touch it - I looked on the net, found vids on how to replace the X-supports with rubber washers & re-do the thermal paste on the heat sink. So I opened it up and somebody had already done the rubber-washer bit, presumably when it was modded. But I went ahead and replaced the thermal paste, and . . . it worked fine! For about 2 weeks. Now I have the same error back again.

Anyone have any ideas? I'll continue my internet hunting but maybe someone here has gone through this already?

E74 is actually a problem with the AVA chip (situated under the cooling fan duct). I have not ever been able to successfully repair a e74 coded 360....

I have fixed the original "red ring" by removing the x-clamps and replacing them with bolts and washers, but as for the e74, you're SOL......
