Just like the title says............let's hear some of that love for the ZT0500 MUDD!!

Of course I'll go first. This is my current carry, along with a slipjoint whittler, and I absolutely love it. I've never made any bones about that though. The clip point blade is my favorite blade style, and though a modified clip point, I find the 0500's blade to cover any task I need it to do. The sealed pivot and lock have held up very good with no gunk making it into those area's, and both area's still as smooth as the day it came out of the box. I have tightened the pivot to my liking, and adjusted the clip to fit down between the "ears" at the end of the handle. I also shortened the clip to be about an inch long, and covered it in black 3M Stair Step tape, which provides enough grip for my finger when drawing the knife from my pocket. The handle looks a little awkward at first, but after holding the knife I found it quite ergonomic in my hand with no hot spots developing after a few days of use on the outside bushes.

All I've got to say at the moment, so lets hear from the ZT0500 owners, past owner's, and wanna be owner's as to your thoughts on this knife.:)

I really, really want to won this knife. I have a friend who EDCs a blem, and i am still kicking myself for not buying one when they were 70 bucks at the sale. I can do an axis lock style flip with it, which is just awesome for a knife of that size, and i generally in love. The execution was excellent, the grip is awesome, it looks really sweet, and the sealed pivot is just awesome. I am thinking about buying a ram so that i can play with the hawk lock, but it will never replace the mudd.

I would not buy one for the longest time because the weight was listed as 4.8 ounces and I thought it would be too light and not a heavy duty knife. Then I decided to try it and was I surprised when it arrived and it actually weighed 6.8 ounces. Oh yeah, I was also pleased!

They are definately hard to come by now and usually command a premium when you do find one.

I'm a MUDD fan:D I have a stock version and the top one I modified to my liking:thumbup:, Stripped the black finish off the handles, stripped the clip and shortened it to sit in the recess, stripped the black off the face of the pivot bolts, stripped the thumbstud and carefully added a choil to allow me to choke up on my grip for some finesse work:thumbup:

I love the look of the modded one very much! You did an awesome job with it.:thumbup:

Moving the clip down between the ears/recesses really stabilized it in my opinion.:)

Thanks cutter:o---it was a result of a cold winters day and an itch for somethin different:) I just can't leave well enuff alone. The clip mod truly did make the clip more stable.

the MUDD is my folder option when i don't need or want to carry the zt100...and i've really put mine to some aggressive use when trampling around in the sierras looking for fishing streams...

Very nice Mod, love the look !

Ya man really nice job on the MUDD mods there. Did you do it all by hand with wet and dry?

Ryan and Kershawguy, thanks for the comments:o I used a stripper for removing the finish on the handles, then wet sanded with 1500 grit on the pivot/thumb disk & clip then used a dremel (very slow with water to cool the blade) for the choil. Also enlarged the hole on the clip to allow for a deeper seat in the recess which definately made the clip more stable:thumbup:

The more I look at that MUDD, the more I want to mod mine! If I had a second one that was mint, I don't believe I would hesitate.

How long did it take the stripper to remove the black coating?

Cutter, I used Easy Off oven cleaner:o It actually took a total of 10 to 15 minutes. After all the finish was removed I hit the scales with simichrome metal polish---it really made em pop:thumbup:

The Mudd has replaced my Emerson Commander as my EDC. I occassionally carry my ZT 0300 and Emerson Commander but not as a rule anymore. When wearing gloves the Mudd can't be beat.

That is one very cool customized 0500. I really enjoy using the MUDD when I know I'll be getting messy with dirt/sand/mud.
