hey,

Just curious of those who own and are still using/have used the MOD Mark I for EDC, Duty, tactical use and etc.....

I would really like to hear and really appreciate your take on this knife. For i am most likely purchasing one for $200 and that is including the spike assembly aswell and it being an auto version.

I would like to hear your uses and experiences with this knife and its functions. Pros and Cons.

thanks to all in advance,

I bought a new one not too long ago with all the features you mention with the exception that it is manual action. I paid $100 for it.

I keep mine in it's pouch in my car. It is a very large folder and appears well built. I have owned several of the smaller Mark II's in the past as well.

I have heard of a few problems from time to time with the plunge lock on the newer Blackhawk version but this is probably a quality control issue. It seems that the slightly older versions made prior to the Blackhawk takeover had less problems but I'm not sure about that and I don't know how big of an issue that it. I have not had any issues with mine.

I would not pay $200 for one. For that kind of money I would spend a little extra and find a decently priced Zero Tolerance ZT 0301 or 0302. That would be better.

If you can find a Mark II cheaper then I would say GO FOR IT!

I own a all black plain edge manual version. I have the custom fitted leather sheath MOD made for it. It is in my EDc rotation and gets used probably once every two weeks. I like the knife but find it too big and bulky for carry with the clip, at least in a front pocket. It also sticks up way too high when clipped. So when I carry it, it is in a sheath.

Thanks for the quick response fellas!! Much appreciated

Bimmer1, Where did you find the Mark I for $100?? I have yet to find it cheaper then $200.

I found someone on another forum who had a new one for sale that was just sitting in their safe. You can keep checking ebay as well. A deal on one will surface every once in a while. No sense in paying $200 for one if you don't have to.

I wanted one and after I held it and saw the blade and the knife it really wasn't for me. Too much money for a knife like that. Unless you are a big man and have big pockets I doubt it will even fit in your pocket comfortably. You sure can pry with a knife like that for sure, but cutting and later sharpening might be a bit of a problem as some have mentioned in the past. There are many other knives imo, much better. These below come to mind first, but it all depends on your taste. if you like it go for it.

Manix
Chinook
Zt301
ZT302

take care

I have 2 autos, 1 new and one older version.
They are great knives, good steel but rusts a bit if you give it a bad treatment.

They have a good ergonomics, altough when I bought it the first time I expected better. But they have a awsome grip, since they have that rugness of the glass filled nylon. This is a HUGE folder. I've carried mine a few times, but with some trousers people are almost able to tell that you have something big in your pocket. Like other user said, when clipped it also sticks out of the pocket too high. And when you sit down it is not very confortable!

These are not flaws, they were designed to this purpose! With the auto at least, you can push the knife and open it pretty fast due to the button beeing near the outside of the pocket - something that it is not easy with most of the auto's!

The auto version also have a strong opening!

Very nice knife for using in some more specific and objective situation, than for EDC In my opinion, since it is very bulky and not very confortable to wear!

I've never had my hands on a Mark II, but they seem a more reasonable option for EDC.

thanks for the insight fellas...much appreciated!!

I am also a lefty so to work with the auto model would it be annoying??? I know the clip is reversable which is great but what about with the auto version??

Any lefties out there use this knife???

thanks,

-Eycee

I just couldn't bring myself to pay $200 for one these days. Not when you can buy a Zero Tolerance ZT 0301 or 0302 for a little more or around $200 from another forum member. Perhaps I would buy another Mark I for $150 and under.

Another better option along with the Zero Tolerance is the frame lock Emerson CQC-12 which can be had for the lower to mid $200's if you shop around.
