I started a thread not long ago requesting info on Benchmade's redclass knives (as I am on a pretty tight budget this year). One of the knives I am considering is the Ambush and it got some favorable reviews. Another knife that caught my attention while browsing New Graham is the Camillus Heat. It's got a slightly shorter blade (3.65") and zytel handles instead of aluminum but is made with the same steel (AUS 8) and around the same price. I'd like to know if any of you forumites have used the Heat and what you guys (or gals) thought of it. Most knives using AUS 8 steel have an RH of 56 to 58 is this about the range for the camillus Heat? The size of the Heat is about what I'm looking for which is right between the Ambush and mini-Ambush. Looking forward to reading some of your reviews!

I bought a Camilus Heat from Darryl Ralph at Bladeshow,,, it is a nice, solid knife, the assisted-open feature really slams it out,it is a good size, good blade
I traded it because I didn't like the Bc coated blade,,,,I think pjhead has one on the sale thread now..

I handled a few at this past weeknd gun/knife show and was not impressed. Then again I don't like asst-opening.

My son has one and he's been very generous about letting me use it. It's an impressive knife. It's Zytel but it has dual steel liners. The opening is lightning fast. The flipper works well -- I believe the knife is safe, but it's easy to open. The ergos are great, as you'd expect from a Darrel Ralph design. It can easily be converted to manual and then back to assist in about a minute by removing and replacing a screw that contacts the torsion bar. I'm not aware of any other assist that does that. The foldover lock design is an advance in liner locks IMHO -- the lock bar will always covers a greater portion of the tang because of the width of the folded section. I'd buy one but I have a Dominator. Shoot I may still buy one anyway.

Big bang for the buck! Actually, I prefer it to the Dominator. Has a better feel in the hand and can switch clip position. Also, the Heat can be easily converted to manual if you desire. You don't need to remove the spring.

I don't own one, but I have handled a Heat. I have also briefly owned a Dominator. The fit and finish on the $45 Heat surpassed my $170 Dominator.. The lockup was solid and tight, the blade was centered when closed, and neither of those things were true with the Dominator.

If you like the Robo-assist and don't mind the AUS-8 steel, the Heat looks to be a great knife for the money.

For those of you who like the design, the Sizzler is now out, a mini Heat. Cute! :D
