Anybody carrying a 24 "just in case"?

I find myself carrying the XM-24 with me every day now (in addition to my 3" sheeple friendly XM-18) because I want to "be prepared" for anything. The 24 makes me feel like I'm fully covered for any emergency. Anybody else doing the same thing? Sometime I think to myself that I'm being ridiculous carrying around $1700 worth of 2 knives on me but then I think, what if I need it and I left it at home? I'm kinda paranoid that way I guess. Probably because I'm an Eagle Scout and being prepared has been hammered into me for as long as I can remember... (I carry a Leatherman Juice C2 in my pocket too but I guess I don't consider that a knife!):o

I some times carry 4 knives, not because I need them to be prepaired, but because I really enjoy having pockets full of knives.

Usually they are all slipjoints, thought I do mix it up with locking folders, and the occasional small fixed blade.

As long as you don't get them confiscated, or stolen, who cares.

Carry what you like. As long as you are not running around in an adult diaper and monkey suit shouting "Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma" you should be fine.

Also carrying my XM-24 today, it was my first XM and its still amazes me as much as the day I got it.

Hey Bigfattyt!! That was your 8,888th post!!!!! Go grab a beer!

I know! Man, just the weight, balance, and the way that blade swings out so effortlessly is incredibly impressive and addictive.

Yes, I carry a 24 EDC paired with 3.5, both Spanto. Around the "crib" it's the same 3.5 Spanto paired with a 3" Slicer. All are flippers.

Price is not an issue in my gear. I find things I like, if I see the value and can afford them, it's a "go".

The XM-24 with a blade of 4" is illegal to carry around over here......I compensate by carrying two 3.5" XM-18's.

I also have a Fallkniven U4, Spyderco PM2 M390 and a Leatherman Wave in my go-to work/laptop bag. (not a man bag)

Carry it more often then not due to a Hinderer only collection. Not gracefully in the pocket by any means but pure awesome in hand. And despite the thick grind it cuts very well! I do alot of journeying with my pup (beagle) so to be prepared for her since she's focused on smelling sents, I carry the Xm24 and a Murray Carter neck knife as a back up.

He's posted pics of a Slicer. As to why...I say, aside from possible silly knife restrictions in your area / personal choice...why not? (rhetorical)

Slicer. And strictly because of the looks. I had a 3.5" Spanto and I just think the slicer grind looks better.

Interesting aside. I did some reading on Oregon carry laws and there is no restriction on the blade size of a knife. The only restriction is whether it is concealed carry of not. As long as the pocket clip of my knife is showing or I'm carrying a knife in a visible sheath I am good to go! Apparently there used to be a 3.5" limit in Portland but that's an old law that is no longer actually on the books. So I'm OK to carry the XM-24 anywhere in Oregon as long as the clip is visible and I'm not waving it around in public causing someone to be concerned enough to call the police. Which is also why I love the 3" XM. It's so small that it really never turns a head when I use it in public. The 24 I keep on me in case of emergencies.

I have presented and displayed my 24 on many occasions, across several states, in front of many types of people, even in areas with silly knife laws, and have no negative issues to report.

It may be the way I conduct myself, or my disarming appearance, or my overwhelming charm, but I find that people do not become paranoid or frightened just by seeing my 24. Then again, it is sexy. Perhaps folks think its too pretty to be a threat.

I'm sitting here considering which Hinderer I should treat myself to for my 22. birthday. It's still 7 months ahead of me, but i can not promise that I'll wait until the big day is here. My question is if i can possibly get a slicer grind on the 24 or the 3.5 if i order directly from Hinderer (yes, i know you have to be a fireman, policeman etc.). Might come across as a stupid question, but I'm not familiar with Hinderer knives, and in my defense they only display the spanto-grind on the website.

It depends on what they are manufacturing at that time or if you are willing to wait until they are making what you want (only Rick or Rob can answer that question, therefore you should send Rob an email or PM).

Thanks for the answer. I gues I'll email Rob and wait for the slicer grind if necessary then :)
