Man, talk about a slap in the flab, err face. Was watching TV with my oldest daughter, doing the classic guy channel surfing thing with the remote, when we stopped on the infomercial for P90X. Of course, she commented that I need to do it so her fat Dad can become the ripped healthy Dad of her dreams. Yep, gotta admit... I'm too fat, too inactive, have some nagging aches and pains, too busy with work... you know, ALL the excuses.

So, I do the internet google thingy and look into the p90x first. Basically, some of the blogs/reviews said that if you are a Fat Bastid with some lingering physical issues, then maybe the Power 90 is for you first.

What I am looking for is those of you WHO HAVE DONE EITHER/BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS. What were your experiences? Likes and dislikes? Worth the money? Do I still need my gym membership? (not really going that regularly...:o)

I gotta get serious about my physical condition. I'm mid 40's and already have some chronic pain issues, am in poor cardio shape, am overweight by more pounds than I care to admit. I want to be there for my kids, and I want to be able to do the things I enjoy for a heck of a long time more.

Looking forward to your honest replies...
Mongo (in more ways than one...)

I've done P90X and Insanity (both by Beachbody). They're both great and will produce fantastic results, BUT...you have to be commited and stick it out till the end, AND (most importantly) you have to follow the eating program. There's nothing magic about either (or Power90), they're all based on basic principles of adaptation and periodization, but they're sound training programs. The real results will depend on what you do in the kitchen.

Surferbruce is right. Without commitment, you wont see results with (any) workout.

To answer your question, yes you should definitely do Power 90 before P90X. If your not in shape already P90X will kill you lol, (trust me I know).

Having tried them I can say that they are both good workouts. But there really is no substitute for real cardio. (running, etc) but P90 is low impact mostly so if your knees or ankles cant take the strain of running its a good thing to consider.

Whatever workout you chose, eating healthy is a must, McDonald's and Pizza Rolls will get you no where.

I'm curious about the P90X as well. Like my buddy Mongo, I too was a fat dad!:D;) Not obese by any stretch, but work, kids, life in general had gotten the best of me and I'd gotten complacent. I've already changed the diet and have done my work in the kitchen for close to a year now. I've gotten the weight off to just about where I want to be so now I'm ready to do something just to get some of the definition and tone back that I had 20 years ago when I was going to the gym regularly........but I don't want to go to the gym!:D

Any more opinions on the P90X?

$39.95 X 3 + $19.95 S+H (???) Are you serious?

For only 1 easy payment of $0.02 with no shipping and handling, I have a plan that has been proven to work.

Eat less and get some moderate exercise. TA DA!

I've done P90X and on the plus side it is a great program. The downside was that you need to commit about 1.5 hours a day to it. I just didnt have the time to spend over an hour 6 days a week to it. I ended up just joining the local gym.

The wife and I did the P90X and now have moved onto the Insanity DVD's.

both have had amazing results.

I include the Russian Kettlebells though for a bit more strength.

nonetheless the work outs are great, well worth the money.

I can't offer any real opinion, since I am so fat and out of shape, but my buddy, who is a big time weightlifter (owned his own gym for a few years) and his wife who is also athletic, think that P90X is a great home workout.

I’ve been through P90x twice and just as soon as I can find out where it went am going to do it a 3rd time. Its probably the best overall workout program I’ve ever done, including all sorts of physical conditioning I did for sports, you can choose your own levels of intensity based on your physical fitness (fatness). It helps a lot if your doing the program with someone else. I’m under 30 and in decent shape and found that so long as I kept pushing myself it was well worth the money.

Well, I ordered Power 90 today. I'm going to force myself to commit to this and get myself into a better place physically. I need to be there for my family for a long time.

I WILL keep all y'all posted on my progress. Wish me luck!

Just make sure the rest of your family buys in to the time commitment. It's so easy to listen to your wife say, "I really need you to do xxx." If they commit to helping you stay committed, then it will be easier. Talk to them, and have them promise to not let you ditch the day-to-day program when other things come up.

I've tried and failed several things, due to lack of buy-in and accountability issues with my wife. I think she likes me being more out of shape than her.:o

If you let your family know how important this is to you, and why, your family can be a great support, rather than a hinderance.

Good luck!

Well, it arrived yesterday. Looked things over, and it looks doable. I think my eldest daughter wants to do it too. I'm already eating kinda sorta the way they want me too... just need to watch my portion control and need to have healthier alternatives for snacking. Will be hitting our little produce store on the way home from work tonight to stock up on some fresh veggies, healthy lettuce (not ice-berg), and some fruits. Will take the embarassing "before" pics and measurements this weekend and get started.

I am going to make fun of you, but of course, you'll rock the thing & get all buff and stuff and then I'll feel bad and then you'll make fun of me because I deserve it...
Best of luck amigo- make us out-of-shape boys proud.

How about an update. Going ok?

Hey Rugger, I'll mail the program to ya when I'm all buffed out!;)

Well, a couple of weeks or so into it. I will admit that I've missed a total of three workouts... only got a good excuse for one of them. The diet part is maybe 75% successful. I'm eating lots of veggies every day. You can really fill up with minimal calories. Found a spray butter that adds just enough flavor, and sprinkle on some Slap ya' mamma (google it, good stuff) for some added flavor.

My wife was away on vacation with the kids for a little over a week, and she commented that she can see results. I am now tightening my belt two holes from prior to starting. I went out and bought heavier dumbbells today, and had my first circuit with them. Went well. I still have some nagging deficits from my hip replacement this January, but they actually stay farther in the backround the more active I am.

The diet change has been the hardest for me. My family has been on vacation for about half of this so far, and I tend to be less attentive when I don't have a support group around me. My wife has been wonderful in making sure that I have salads prepared, and thawing out chicken and fish for me. I still need to work on my portion control and making time out for those mid morning and mid afternoon snacks that keep you from over indulging at lunch and dinner. I never realized how important they are. I will be taking progress pics at day 30. Haven't been brave enough to look at the "before" pics yet.

Yep, I recommend this for all you bastids in the same boat as me... middle aged, overweight and in less than stellar cardio shape. I hope I can motivate even just one of you. If I can do it, YOU CAN TOO!

One more thing... don't forget to tell your loved ones that you LOVE THEM. :D (I think that may have to become my new tag line... time to retire "Never F*&# a psycho chick" as my signature line. of course, please still follow that advice)
