I have just recently purchased a victorinox classic with alox handles. and i was just wondering if anybody uses this knife as their only edc blade. and how it stands up to some hard use.

Vic Classic is a small blade for EDC. I carry one as a backup, but mostly use everything but the blade. Also check out the multi-tool specific forum.

This is my Vic. It's an outstanding EDC!

I also EDC a Classic on my spare key chain, with a whistle and a small flashlight.
But not as my main knife

I like all SAKs, but I'm not a fan of the Classic. The scissors are nice, but the blade is too small to be useful. The Cadet has a more useful blade and doesn't take much more room in the pocket, plus it looks better.

I've had a Classic of some kind on my keychain for the last twenty years. I EDC a larger pocket knife, but the CLassic's tools can do stuff a larger blade can't. Actually, I use the toothpick & tweezers more than anything else on it.

thx - cpr

I have a stayglow classic on my keys, but only for the glowing scales. The knife itself it WAY to small for me. I do edc a deluxe Tinker however.

My better half has had a classic on her keyring for several years now. She got it when her company got a mess of them with thier logo on it as give-aways to clients, so Karen took to carrying on herself. I watched for a year while she used the heck out of that tiny little knife, and did things with it that made the knife knut in me shudder with horror. To my great surprise, it stood up to her abuse, so I did my own experiment.

For a number of months I carried one on my keyring on a quick release type of hook. I made a point that when ever I had a knife job to do, like cuttng open a UPS box, open my mail, cut open one of those damm plastic blister packages, cut some jute twine for the tomato plants, cut open a big bag of dog kibble, bags of top soil or mulch, or whatever, I'd try using the little classic first. Out of curiousity of course.

To my very great surprise, it did 95% of what I had to do.

The very thin blade sharpened up very well, cut like a little razor, and I did end up liking the sissors and little screw driver/nail file blade that I used for small phillips and light prying for when a thumbnail was not enough. My mind was changed by the classic, before which I had not though much of a knife. In truth, I now think it is one of the most underestimated knives on the market.

It's small enough that it's sheeple friendly almost anyplace.

I now carry one on my keyring as an auxilury/back up kind of thing. I do use mine on a regular basis, and find it very handy.

I think a Vic classic is one of those things that everyone should have on thier keyring.

I constantly have one on my keyring. Like jackknife, I found it can do most of the knife chores I perform in a days time. I've been tempted to pick up one of the alox models, but I'd hate to lose the tweezers and toothpick.

I have an older SAK on my truck key ring. A Victoria Officier with a gold tone key ring swiveling loop, what looks like a cross bow symbol and a gold tone shield on the scale. Don't mean to hijack a thread but does anyone know much about this model. I have more modern SAKs on my Motorcycle keys. And, yes they have been used for everything from opening boxes to spreading Peanut Butter. As Carl Malden would say "Don't leave home without them."

I keep a Classic in a Normark sheath on my keyring. The knife blade doesn't get as much use as the others, but it's a great reliable little knife, and I've given a few away as gifts. The different colors and even customized logos can make this a special gift: I once gave my sister a Star of David blue Classic and her Irish boyfriend a "matching" green Shamrock Classic.

There are also a few other models about the same size, all good. They are all a good choice for a child's first knife, even if you prefer to dull the knife blade a bit, which I personally do not.

I carry a Rambler (Classic + Phillips/bottle opener combo tool) on my keyring. It's there for an absolute back up and to ensure I have some utility on me even if I just grab my keys when I head out. I usually also carry my Charge (generally tool needs), SAK (use this for my sheeple cutting) and a dedicated folder (heavy cutting). I don't really think the Classic has enough blade to really be a true primary EDC. Sure, if you only have the rare cutting task that is always extremely light, then you could very likely get by with one. But then again, why would you want to? It's so much more fun having more pointy sticks on you! :D

I nearly always have one in my watch pocket, but it is a LIGHT duty knife...a very handy one, but not for hard use.

for those of you that carry it on your keychain, do you have any sort of lanyard attaching it rather than just directly onto the keychain? i just used the blade and found my keys were making it extremely difficult as they were falling into the way. (sorry if this doesnt make sense). thanks a lot for all of your responses!

I have a Vic. classic on my keychain with about a one inch lanyard . I set up my keychain on a carbiner with different rings for the different attachments (Spyderco Delica, tracker flashlight and about a dozen keys). The lanyard helps when clipping fingernails or trimming mustaches and the like.

I currently use a #1 s-biner to attach it to my keyring. It works well enough, but am currently searching for a short and more reliable option as we speak :)

I tried carrying a Vic Classic for EDC for a while, until I lost two of them. They were just so small, I think they were poping out of my pocket when I pulled some change out, or sat down in the washroom. Maybe if you carried them on your keychain it would be less of a problem (that's where mine live now) but on the other hand that makes them more difficult to use. Aside from that, I think the blade is really too small for much except slitting open packages and letters.

I now sometimes carry a Vic Ambassador for EDC in the office. It's a slightly larger version of the Classic (same blades and tools, but 3-inches as opposed to 2.25-inches) but even it is not really up to "hard use" IMO and I probably use the scissors and file more than the actual blade.

I have EDC'd a Classic since I was about 12 on...like Esav, I really enjoy all the color and shield options, but I havent taken the hook on any of the really neat ones like the Gold Ingot or the Sterling Silver...

I have worn a few out, but I always have a secondary larger blade. I have yet to break one, and I've used the blade as hard as the small grip will allow.

I use a spring clip hooks from one of those nylon lanyards that hold the I.D. security cards around your neck. That alows me to unhook it from my keyring in a second, to use unattached to the keyring.
