Hey all, I got an email today from a man claiming to be an ex-Ghurka. He was offering me khukuris at wholesale to distribute for him. I am suspicious, he addressed me as Bob White, not my real name. I can only guess he was in here and got my email address and name. If he is legit, I couldn't help him anyway, but I am paranoid about scams. Any one else get this email? What do you think?

I got an email like that too. The title mentioned something about Nepal or khukuris, I don't remember. I never read the email since I figured it was spam. Like you, he used my forum name instead of my real name.

I am wondering if I should email him back and tell him about how I already found Himilayan Imports. How could he offer a better khukuri? I have no interest in being a dealer and trying to compete with Yangdu. I could never do that. I just don't want to disrespect him, if he was in fact a Ghurkha.

I would delete the email. I don't attempt to show respect to all the Nigerian princes or bankers or philanthropists who spam me.

After reviewing the thread going on about the disputes over HI vs. tora, I am begining to suspect there is a connection somewhere.

judging by the questionable (at best) practices being put forth by some over in "other threads", I'd say that you are likely right.

On another note, after I saw the dust up last night I checked out the tora site. coincedentally, they were updating their webstore with new models and prices, etc. I say coincedence because it must be, right? The owner coming and trying to knock his competitors products as soon as he has a product to sell again....

While I have no way of knowing, I don't think it's the same guy. The spam at Knifeforums was by someone with a limited use of english. While I don't agree with Simon from Tora, and don't appreciate his slamming of HI products, I'm sure he would rather sell at retail.

So I guess this isn't the best time to launch the Sheevah Cheese Khombhat Gurkee Nife series with removable chos.

Don't worry. I have all your e-mail addresses written down. :) ;)

Cougar banned a "Himalayan Mart" for spamming. It seems that instead of posting it, the guy accidentaly reported his own spam to the mods :). A google search reveals that "Himalayan Mart" is an export company that sells khuks.

Could this be where your spam is coming from?

If he were a real businessman, he wouldn't want anyone as a distributor who was lame enough to fall for an email like his. :D

(I got one also, from KF, I'm sure.)
