Just going through some old floppy discs, and found a couple of pics of one of my old halves. Thank goodness, I've been able to resist the urge to buy more lately(although seeing these pics may change that). ;) :)

I don't think this half is particularly rare, but just look at the condition. Has a little nice, subtle toning going on too. :)

I don't have any like those. I do have several Morgan and Peace dollars as well as several of the new Silver Eagle series. Halves...mostly Franklins and Kennedys. I have 1 Walking Liberty and 1 Barber. Gotta bunch of dimes and quaters and some "war nickels" too.

Danbo, do you have any 20 cent pieces or half dimes?

Paul

Somewhere, I know I have one old half dime. But, I couldn't find it last time I looked for it. Sure hope I didn't lose it.

I love those old silver coins. I also have a set of Eagles and a full Danco
album of foreign silver. Those are some beautiful coins as well.

Yeah, love 'em, and it's a blast to find them in the ground, untouched for 100+ years, or like this one, almost 600 years old, found in England:

I have one that was found in a viking hoard in Sweden. It was from the middle east. The vikings went all the way to the Black Sea !

Another set of pics of a coin I have. Again, not particularly rare, but this one has even nicer toning. :)

There is an old Viking city underneath of Moscow, and supposedly, the Viking Rus clan is what Russia is named after.

I have a couple of half dimes one of which has a small hole in it. The story is my adopted great grandmother used to wear it around her neck for good luck...dates are in the 1850's. Very worn condition.

I once found a coin while metal detecting several years ago. Had a hole drilled in the top and the backside of the coin had been milled flat and professionally engraved with some really fancy scroll engraving. Did a little research, and found out that what I have is called a "Love Token", and is collectable also. Not collectable as a coin though. Too bad, since it was a Seated Liberty quarter from around the mid 1870s.

I have quite a 'stash' of mostly junk silver coins. There are however a few nice ones in the batch. I love to find them in change , last one I found a couple of years back was a quarter.
I wish I still had my metal detector..

Very nice coins there danbo!

There's nothing like the feel of a silver dollar. It's solid and substantial....feels like you're holding something that actually has value.

The new state quarter just leave me flat. They remind me too much of the tokens you used to get as gas stations for a fill up. :grumpy:

A month or so ago I went in to the local bank and cashed my paycheck. Deposited most of it and got some "mad money"...(money I can just piss off if I want). The teller handed my the bills and just dropped the change on the counter. I heard that musical "ting!" that says "Silver!". I swept up the change so fast I think I actually startled the teller. There was a nice condition 1945 silver dime. I asked the teller if she had any more of them in her till. She said "Sure, you want 'em? Some lady brought them in and I hate to see them go out as change." She turns around and pulls out out of her coin rack 4.80 in dimes and hands them over. Then she asks " She brought in a couple of rolls...do you want those too?" "Oh..Yeah." I said. Now I'm shaking.
She unlocks her drawer and pulls out 4 more rolls of dimes. I swapped out my bills for the rolls and went home and played treasure hunt for the next few hours. They were about half "Roosevelt" and half "Mercury's"!! It took me about a week to card them and intigrate them into my collection.

There's an old gentleman in my town that all he does for entertainment is buy rolls of halves and go throught them. He knows all the key dates and errors. He'll sit at an outdoor table at a cafe and look through them. What is not collectible he'll re-roll and trade back in for another roll. Last year he found a very rare half worth thousands.

I have close to 30 pounds of silver coins. Need more room in the safe for important papers & took 2 cigar boxes of common mercs, rosies & assorted quarters & haves to a local dealer to get an idea of todays market and maybe exchange them for gold or several old fine silver specimens. Incidentally, forget the silver prices quoted on the financial page.Spot silver is running around $1.50 less than that delusional figure.

I have 2 cigar boxes of exotics like you guys are showing & that is where I'll probably head, fewer but finer. Originally ,my thoughts were toward all gold but don't want to part with old friends I've been collecting since '42 or '43.

Uncle Alan ;) :)

Wow , neat story :) I wish something like that would happen to me lol.
I did manage to score a 1 dollar silver certificate in nice condition a little while back while rummaging thru a cash till at my old job.

DAMM, I wish I was that lucky. I've only gotten one mercury back as change. How do you keep them clean and separated?

I used to search rolls of quarters for the state error ones. I've found more
than a few. A MS quarter struck through cloth and a handful of TX qtrs
with a metal scrap struck into them. Those were fresh from the mint also
those were fresh from the mint so there all Unc.

In the process of looking through them I asked the manager of the local
grocery store if I could trade my searched quarters for his freshly rolled
ones. The manager agreed and now everytime they find silver certificate
or silver coins they hold them for me. The best find so far has been a
1934a 10 dollar note. And a roll of silver dimes. Not bad for just asking.
