I've got a duplicate Jolly Roger (Skull & Crossbones) that I will trade for one-or-two Q's I need. The JR is probably the most desireable!

Anyone else love these things? I sure do! I am intersted in any information, examples/variations that you might be aware of.

Thanks, Dan

I love those things too even though I don't own any.

On a side note, does anybody have a list of all the different Q models.

I would love them to come out with a Glock version!!! ;)

I've seen a bunch of different Q's - from the solid blades to the awesome skull and cross bones.

Seems like there were different handle colors too.

I don't have any idea how many different models there were, but I'd be interested in finding out. Surely there is a Q collector web page out there somewhere.

IIRC, I think Spyderco was doing custom designs for any company that was willing to buy a certain quantity. Pretty cool.

Wish I still had my Q. Saw the prices on ebay, and decided I needed the money more than the knife.

Oh well.

email joyce... she has a list of the Q models... over 50 variations... and 5 handle colors.(I have a pic of this in my comp)...

Thanks VW, I'll try to give Joyce a shot!

Fozzy, after I get the list I'll post what I need!

Barry, (one of our R&D people)is researching this for a knife magazine article. We were shocked! There were 2 FULL filing cabinets of "Q" designs that were generated by our engineering firm. Some were actually produced, some not. It has taken him many hours to research the files and he's half through. Once he's finished and has a complete, detailed list he'll post it here. Should be sometime in 2003.

Dan,
Ever since my brother gave me a Q and I had to find out what it was, I've been acquiring them. Maybe not at the pace of you, but to date I have 25 Q's and 1 Q blade. 16 of these Q's and the blade are unique but probably not as unique as the ones you've been looking for. I also have a word document that I've been doing my own documenting. I believe that there are at least 50-60 designs. I also have many photos from various locations around the internet and a couple of forumites that have sent me some of what they have.
I have been acquiring many other unique spyderco's which I will be trying to trade for some of the Q's I don't have. Care for anything else than Q's for that Skull and crossbones? :)

OK, so I am a Q-neophyte (I only have 1 and it's the standard design, never used)...

But my question is, how many use the Q on a EDC or semi-EDC basis? How does it hold up for ya?

Dan email sent. Sorry I don't get on as much on the weekends.
As for the EDC question. I have the original one my brother gave me that I carry sometimes at work (Main EDC is a Ti Salsa PE). I also have a WMO (Wilderness Medical Outfitters that I carry occasionally) That has a sheepfoot blade, which I like the practicality of.

Whoa! 50 different models? I think I'll email Joyce for that list too. I have 4. A PE and SE. A SE Solid Blade and one from Blade Magazine.

Only have about 17 "Q"s and just a few of the "rare" ones - 97 NYC Sheepfoot, Blade Magazine, HK, and USA. Last ac-Q-sition was a full set of PE Spydie cut-outs in all 5 handle colors. (1 of 20 sets made) Seems like every time you turn around someone mentions one you've never seen. Looking forward to the article and seeing a complete list.

Wonder if Prides will ever be similar - only special ones I've seen so far are the Diver Down and the Confederate Flag. Anyone know of others?

java,
Didn't know you had so many Q's. You mention the USA Q, is that the flag in the blade, or something else? I know what you mean about discovering new Q's. Acquiring a set of 5 of these will also slow down the ac-Q-sition rate too :):)

A Q is a light weight knife of about 2 1/2 inches long. The blade is laser cut with a pattern, often a spyderweb. The laser cut removes about 50 % of the total amount of steel. The handle is lightweight plastic with a unique lock and clip. Their great cutters, but not good for spreading peanut butter.

I bought the Q for my wife who fell in love with the serrated flag design. It is the only knife she ever requested. She found it in the AG Russell catalog I left in the bathroom. Funny, we only had kitchen Spyders at the time, and for me her Q was the start of my love for Spydercos.

My wife uses the Q virtually every day. She's a teacher. It sits at the bottom of her purse and is sharpened and cleaned about every 6 months when it comes up for air in my sight. Although she has spydercos in the kitchen, she often digs it out of the purse and uses it for food prep. The cut-outs can be hard to clean, but the knife can easily go through the dishwasher to clean all the holes.

sven,
The best place to find pictures (since I can't attach them here is at ebay. Just search on 'spyderco q' and you can see many examples. Just be careful if you want to purchase them there. Some command very high prices.
brownshoe, the Q started me on spyderco's too. Now if I could only kick this virus :)

Chris,

Sorry I didn't catch your reply earlier. By USA model, I meant the one that's sometimes called the Stars and Stripes. How's your research on these guys coming along. Missed out on a Magnum Research Q just last week. They gave the last of them away with their Desert Eagles. What a combo that would be - Cool BIG mufkin handgun with cool 'lil teeny knife! :)
