Anybody else open their small 21 like a Bic lighter?

I use the grooves(jimping) on the thumb ramp when my small 21 is closed and roll my thumb across like i'm flicking a Bic lighter and a little flip, (you can roll right through the full arc this way) and it clicks right open.

Was this an intentional design feature and does anyone else do this?

I do it now and again for something different but it's not my normal habit. I normally carry my 25 and the detent is stronger and makes it hard to open that way.

sorry, my thread view got messed up and I missed the op; they were out of order. Mine is still too new to open it with this method but will have to try it later down the road

I have a few alternative opening methods, but I cannot do it that way (I only have larges). I seem to recall some others opening their 25s this way.

Variety is fun.

Yea, it works on the 25 pretty well. I often carry friction folders when back in the UK so that opening technique is very familar to me. :)

I'll use a controversial word here, I have a Cold Steel knife from the late 80s early 90s that was a advertised as opening that way,I can't remember the model but I was curious if it was an intentional design function because just enough rides above the scales to do this without discomfort.

Maybe my detent is stronger than most 25's are but I find the technique much easier to employ with my regulars.

There are a few makers that make locking knives that are designed to be opened that way. I quite like that method and design as it makes for a nice clean looking knife having no thumbstud or thumb hole in the blade. I see it as better than a classic flipper design personally althought they are quite similar in some ways. :)

I never thought of them that way but they use the same mechanics the flipper just gives you more leverage to overcome the detent. :thumbup".

I open mine like this sometimes, but like flyingjon it's not my usual method of opening. More like when i'm sitting around fumbling with it.

Never knew you could open them like that. learn something new every day.
Thanks for the new to me method!!!!

Im desperately trying to imagine what you all are talking about lol. I remember everyone opening their bics like they were snapping their fingers. Similar?

Your thinking Zippo. Hold your CRK in your fist pivot up and roll the blade open with your thumb using the exposed jimping. Only works if you knife is very very worn in. I have always wondered why this bit of blade is exposed when closed.

Ahh lol, got ya. That makes sense now. Will try it. Thnks:)

Ah, bingo I just got it. I too was lost on this. I actually did this messing around with it in my hand by accident.
