Ok, it was very late, and I heard a loud noise in the back yard...

I just happened to be sitting here at the computer, so I jumped up to check it out. I went out the back door into the pitch blackness... flicked on the flashlight and didn't see anything. I walked over to the gate and slipped my Greco Companion out of the sheath just in case... I flung the gate open and - nothing. Well, I was pretty surprised. The dog is inside the house since the temp. is supposed to dip below freezing tonight, so I don't know where the noise came from. I really expected to see SOMETHING, so I was in "fight or flight" mode.

I shut off my flashlight and thought "well, must be the wind or something" and shoved my Companion back into it's sheath.... only, it didn't go in quite right. It sort of... ummm, stabbed through the side. I just couldn't see at the time and was extremely "on edge", so I didn't resheath it as carefully as I should have. DOH!

Has this ever happened to anybody else, or am I just a "special" case? Here are some pics I just snapped:

LMAO. . .I see Mr. Murphy made a stop by your house as well tonight. He was over at my house earlier, wrapping the telephone cord connected to may laptop around my ankle. He spung his trap as I got up to open a package with my OPEN MOD Hornet. I hit the floor, the 'puter hit the floor, and the Hornet was firmly driven into a "care package" containing Filipino delicacies unavailable here in Fort Worth. To complete Mr. Murphy's elaborate plot, the only item disturbed was a shattered bottle of "Barrio Fiesta Spicy Sinigang Bagoong" which is in non-Filipino terms, fermented and salted brine shrimp. Quite tasty but pungent, oily and messy. Evil bastard! Thank God Toshiba makes a durable computer. Thatwas my cue to leave and do late night shopping at Walmart. I thought I might fare better with the frenzied bargain Xmas shoppers at midnight. What could go wrong? And to all, a good night. . .

Dayuhan, sorry but that was funny! AntDog, look at the bright side, you could of been putting it into your front pocket! The only thing I would of done differently is go out with a gun instead of the knife...when I hear a noise outside I either bravely go out with a gun or hide in the house like a girly boy.

And that's why I don't like plain leather sheaths. It probably wouldn't cost too much to have a kydex insert made, but now you need a new sheath, too.

Here's my bright-side view: At least you got to stick your blade in somebody's hide for your trouble. :D

If that picture doesn't show up on a kydex sheath maker's website, I'll be pretty surprised. :D geegee

Bruz:

Though I don't believe this about you, it's girly man, not boy. Lets get the terminology correct.:D

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the picture of your knife.

:)

It happens. I have one of those buck fixed blades with like a 7" blade. I got a deal on it because someone at the store stuck it trough the sheath like that, but lower down and out the back. :)

I sliced a sheath just about in half while drawing it once; it was a $20 Wal-Mart special with a cheesy leather sheath and the knife had just gotten off of my Edge Pro. Bad combination. On a brighter note, as has been mentioned, at least you know it's sharp! :)

Yep, you guys saying "get the gun first" are right. I should have went and grabbed the 870 loaded with some 00 buck instead of just jumping up and going out there! The more I look at the sheath, the more I laugh. I'm glad you guys got a kick out of it too. :)

That Companion sure is sharp! It's A2, and it's pretty easy to keep a razor edge on it. It's one of my "go to" knives.

I would be amazed if somebody didn't use the pics to demonstrate the value of kydex! I have a kydex sheath for the knife, but wasn't using it at the time. I'll be using it now. :D

dayuhan13 - I'm glad I wasn't the ONLY one to get my share of trouble for the day! Funny story!

Oh, I thought of one more good thing... at least it wasn't one of my Kenny Rowe sheaths!

an interesting perspective for those of us that know that Gross motor skills are the only skills you have in a panic situation...I had a similar situation, noise in the house, when I was in it, and i grabbed my knife, and opened it, opened the door, and it was my dog..but when I looked down, I realized I was carrying my Gunting Drone, not the live version..duh..Joe

Ah, but was it really? Strange things walk unseen....perhaps among us even as we speak. Against such things your puny weapons are useless, quite useless I'm afraid....

Would you mind telling me where you got the kydex sheath? I have two Greco's that I would like to get into kydex, but I'd rather not send them away to be "fitted" if I don't have to. :)

Does anyone know of a kydex sheathmaker who has a Whisper Clip-Tip and/or a Drop-Point Dangler handy to act as a model?

bquinlan - mail sent.

be thankful you didnt stick it into your hand!!!!!

Hell yeah, that would've hurt... I'm lucky the flashlight was in my other hand. That would really be painful - that knife would make really short work of the tender web between the thumb and index finger! (*OUCH!*)

Send an email and picture to Greco. Bet he will replace it

Hmmm, maybe I'll give it a shot. It's worth a try, and I liked the sheath. I just really should have been more careful. Thanks for the advice. :)

Great story and pic. I'll remember this and be more careful myself.
Maybe you should keep the sheath - lots of stories there...
