i've done some wackiness in my day... never removed a handle though. finally got enough cash saved up to get a custom mod like this (but much, much better) dont at the custom shop... this will always be by beater slicer though. cant sell it... waaaaaaaaaay to modded for that :D hardly even a busse anymore...

Seth I like that blade design, Very nice and the finish is not bad looking at all .

Seth, is this your knife?

I think it is the same one. That is so funny:D . I was getting ready to start a new thread about THAT knife.

Choils are something I can do without, and I really liked THAT knife.

I was going to put that pic up and try to get some more info on it, and ask if it was going to be made again:D .
How long did it take to get your knife back?
Did I say I really like it?
How do you like it?
Patrick:D

I found your thread where you modded the Nick:eek: .
That was crazy! No dremeling for me:D .
What happened to the piece that was going to be like a Skeleton Key?

Can you post a pic of your custom that looks like your modded Nick?

kinda funny, you can find the thread quickly by searching for "porr", since i misspelled it in the title...

its seems like your implying that i sent it to the busse shop to have it customized? all the hacksawing and monkey wrenching on this poor thing was done by me :)

i originally did it with a straight edge because it looked better and it logically seemed like it would make a "better knife" then the (to me at least) considerably more ghetto looking recurve it ended up being. but i found that the edge was to low for the 3rd gen handles, and teded to want to turn in my hand. when i had it like that, it was also much to thick right behind the edge. when it had a straight edge i hadnt really thinned it out any, i just cut it down and put an edge on it. i also had a crazy hard time indexing the where the edge was when cutting, it was really akward to use.

with the recurve mod to keep lower the torqueing, i thinned out the main bevels on both sides (making it a *sorta* asymetrical grind instead of pure chisel), and put a distal taper to the tip. its a much much better knife now.

i love the thing, it just looks ugly as sin to me. i have a choiless "thin as you are willing to get it" satin jack tac on order from busse right now that will be replacing it.

i'll always keep it becuase i dont want to sell such a heavily modded peice (since it wouldnt carry the warrantee anymore). as it is though, the distal taper and the blade thickness right behind the edge are thin enough to make for a very good slicer, but thick enough that i dont have to worry about destroying it on staples and such. it really does feel like a part of you hand when you hold it, completely neutral balance, and all you have to do is let your cutting material touch your index finger and you know where everthing is to make your cut correctly (even working blind).

i think i still have it somewhere... i moved twice since then though, so it may be lost to the dust bunnies...

i dremeled the initial shape, but cut it down considerably after that using a grinder... ya - i wont be doing actaul dremel cutting ever again on anything thats heat treated. i'm pretty sure i would have ground away anything that was effected if it actaully did disturn the heat treat, but i dont know. jerry mentioned infi's ability to transfer heat through the matrix - but also mentioned its temper isnt effected until you reach 900 degrees

one of the reasons why it will always be mine  :D

Seth if you have your custom could you post a pic?
If you don't have it yet could you let me know a little about ordering process?
Patrick

on the satin jack i just called up jerry and asked for it. they have my card and contact information on file, and thats basically that... (my exact instructions were, i'd like a choiless satin jack tac as thin as your willing to make it. i'm not going to be using this for any kind of prying (i carry a hogsjtacle for that))

i wont actually see my customs for another couple of years though.

My idea is to find a skilled knifemaker who can get the scales off and lighten the tang without weakening it. Then have the spearpoint ground to a clip point style, and new scales,or the old ones replaced.I'll probably remove the finish myself.

I haven't done much research so far, and I still want to use the knife like it is for a while, no big rush. Depending on what is cost effective, I might only end up with the clip point. The spear point doesn't do much for me.

Seth, that is a long time to wait for a knife! But, if you know what you really want I could see doing it, you would always have something to look foreward to :) .Patrick

the custom wait time from busse is around 2-4 years depending on how extensive your knife is. (this is for customs, not modifications (i'm not sure what it is for that))

were you to ask for a recurved serrated flying hanlded swagged back sharpened hollow ground upper edge+serrations 5" longer than normal moab - you could be looking at a little longer then that.

many many factors play into the "2 week" waiting period :D
