Anybody ever ordered a Camillus closeout?

Tried this on the Camillus forum, but got no bites.

For Camillus closeouts, their site mentions "cosmetic flaws" and "slight blemishes".

How flawed? How bad are the blemishes? Anybody?

I haven't, but I do remeber reading here recently that one of our members picked up a desert tan Marine Combat Knife and was very disappointed. Mostly because he thought the desert tan finish was butt ugly.

Here's a link to the thread.

That was me! It sure was ugly!

But since then, I've chopped off the top portion of the guard, filed it flush with the leather handle, belt sanded the the sides of the handle flat, removed the pommel and recontoured the rear portion of the handle, re-installed the pommel, polished the leather handle so it's nice and smooth and my brother thought it looked cool so I gave it to him!

I ordered the knife over the phone and the servise was pretty good.

Not liking the knife is one thing. Lots of flaws is another.

Was the knife significantly flawed (aside from the fact that you didn't like how it was made)?

I purchased a Magnum Camp from the Closeout store. The only flaw was that the tang stamp wasn't deep enough, so the coating completely obscures it -- making the knife part of the "super-secret, special sterile" run of BK-5's. ;) The knife is otherwise first quality.

I've ordered a number of items from their closeout store. Only one ( a BK-5) was listed as having a cosmetic flaw (tang stamp). All the other items were, I assume, overstocks. The BK-5 that I received looked like a "first" quality to me, as I couldn't discern a problem. YMMV

:)

The knife I bought was a USMC "Desert Tan" model. It was just ugly, not a factory second , it was more symetrically ground than my regular Camillus USMC knife.

I think the BK7 they have on closeout is a great buy. I should have bought one.

I bought a bk9 as a second, the handle had a scuff & the coating had a small spot that was too thick, by the tang.

10 seconds with my dremil tool to smooth out the handle & all is well.

If it had been perfect, I might have babied it as I hate to ruin a nice finish.

The MK II, desert tan I got is excellent, except it did not have a useable edge. It didn't take any time to fix that with my Lansky set.
The folks at Camillus were very pleasant and helpful on the phone too.
