Thread title pretty much sums things up. I was cruising around ebay and came up with this survival knife, made by Imperial. Does anybody know any details about them, such as type of steel, era of production etc... Based on the handle material and the construction methods I would personally be led to believe that they were produced around the time of Vietnam, as they look outwardly similar to the M - 14 bayonets. Just a guess though. If any of you know anything I would be interested in learning about this type of knife. Thanks.

They were made by Imperial Schrade. Basically it’s a variant of the M16 M7 bayonet, except it has a hammer/nail puller pommel instead of the bayonet mounting pommel and instead of the muzzle ring cross guard, there is a plain cross guard with screw driver tips on each end.

I don't know a thing about the knife, but as flimsy as that sheath looks, I wouldn't pay to find out :D

It's a Imperial M7-S Survival knife. It's almost identical to the M7 bayonet except for the hammer pommel, screwdriver guard, and serrations. I can't remember the steel used but it is carbon and it's been parkerized.

It's actually not a bad beater knife. I know this because I bought one myself new at the BX over in England in 1986. I used it quite extensively as a real user. It will hold up and perform well. I'd go so far as to say it's about Ka-Bar quality.

The sheath, as ugly as it is, held up with little to no evidence of use. It's lined for security so you don't have a "pop-through". I've even pounded stakes with the pommel handle of the knife while the knife was in the sheath and it was all A-OK.

I don't remember what I paid for it back then but I know I got my money's worth out of it a long time ago.

Anyway, that's my view...

I have one that's decades old. Lightweight but holds up well.
Not what I would class as junk but in the "decent" league

I bought one of these in the bx when I was in the AF in the late 80's. It is an m7 blade and handle with a hard pommel, and saw on back with two screwdrivers built in the crossguard. It was made by imperial schrade. I regretted buying this knife as it was just as useless (well not as useful) as it looked. It is not an ideal survival knife. Just like the m7 would not make a good one either. My personal thoughts spend your money on something more useful, unless you want it to look at!! I believe I paid around 29 dollars for mine? It is an interesting conversation piece though.

As far as blade shape, it was originally developed for the m3 trench knife, 1943, then used on the m4, m5, m7 bayonets.
