Anybody experience with Benchmade Nimravus?

I am considering adding a Benchmade Nimravus to my gear as a nice and tough all around knife. It will be brought along on smaller hiking trips in all conditions. Anyone in here who owns one and cares to share his experiences with that knife? Also curious which bladeshape you own. And how is the sheath?
Thanks for your experiences and opinions in advance.

I got the 154CM standard tip model. It is a very lightweight knife for it's size, and well balanced with excellent ergonomics IMHO. It cuts very well because of the broad, thin, flat ground blade. The tip is a lot sharper than you would think from the pictures. Although I haven't had time to put it through brutal field work, the knife feels nice and solid.

The sheath holds the knife tightly - the knife can be popped out with a thumb, or with a sudden jerk if the knife is securely attached. There is a lock that makes the knife impossible to draw, which is useful if using an inverted carry under extreme circumstances.

BTW, the factory edge on mine was very sharp.

Edited to add: The belt loop on the sheath is a bit bulky, but can be removed with torx drivers.

I have owned both the Nimravus and the Nimravus Cub. I actually sold the Nimravus, as it just never felt "right" in my hand. The Cub felt much more balanced, and I have two of those. Right now the Cubs are my first choice for urban wear, but I'm not sure a Nimravus would be my first choice for rough outdoor use. But it's a good knife.

Owned one briefly but never used it... I've handled several of other people's that they sent to me for custom sheaths. They're what you would expect from Benchmade: good quality, sharp, well made. I like the fact that you can remove the scales for either using the knife as a "skeleton" knife or adding your own, different scales. It's hard not to like the Nimravus, in my opinion. The sheath works quite nicely, too.

I can understand that, it looks much more 'special forces' then it does 'outdoor'. Looking at it it gives me the idea it is a solid piece of equipment you can rely on. And it is about the size i prefer for a knife for general use (i seem to prefer handling fixed blades medium to large size).
Just wish i lived in America when it comes to prices for knives... Over here they are WAY more expensive and far more difficult to get. Maybe someone should send me one over :p

The Nimrvarus blade was a little thinner than I'd thought -- I never used it, but it looked to be a good slicer, but for heavy duty chores I'd perfer a thicker blade. Also, the shape of the blade isn't designed for skinning work. I'm prejudiced, but for outdoor work these days I'm a big fan of Bark River knives. Also -- call me old fashiioned, but I also like the Grohmann Russell Belt knife for camping.

Not trying to talk you out of the Benchmade -- it's a quality knife and I own several. Just a matter of personal choice.

I never liked the small, squareish feeling handle myself. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty good knife.

Maybe you should look at the right place. You can shoot me an email at
vanman@skynet.be and I can tell you more. ;)

I have the standard plain edge in M2. Light-weight, rugged and if u do worry about rust, get the 154CM. The Sheath, quality-wise there is nothing wrong with it, but if u want something slimmer and lighter for IWB carry, go check out with Eric for On/Scene Tactical or Robert at Survival Sheath Systems. They make quality Concealeax sheaths.
