Hi, I am doing some "hunting" for a friend: he wants a Yancey. I guess they (husband/wife team?) worked out of Colorado, and used a mountain outline as their logo. If he is correct, they often had a scrimshaw handle.

Could anyone either e-mail me a picture, or point me n the right direction?

I posted a WTB thread but have had no response, and thought someone here might be able to help. :)

Thanks,
Rob

From the AG Russell Site:
About 20 years ago Col. Applegate premiered his Applegate-Fairbairn Fighting Knife. The first version was handmade by T. J. Yancy in Colorado . This knife has had a long life. When T. J. stopped making them, Al Mar made them in Japan. While Blackjack had their factory operating in Illinois, they made the knife, and now they are being made by Boker in Solingen, Germany. It is my opinion that these are the very best value of all of the knives. They are of great quality and sell for about one fourth the original price.

I'd say give Russell a call.

Rob, I dont know if they're still making knives but I remember about 15 years ago Paragon Sports in NYC had a display case full of them and they were gorgeous. Many were scrimshawed but all were beautiful.
If you find any you will not be dissapointed.

Pete,

Can you ask TJ how many A/F's he made for the Col.? Also I was wondering if there were any variations such as the shape of the blade, guard, or handle? Also did he just do them in the black Lexan or did he make some with other handle materials or colors. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Tom Carey

IIRC Yancey did them in both the Black and in the Tan as well. I don't recall the handle material, but I'm sure it's not Lexan.

I know TJ, his son is a good friend of mine. What do you want to know?
Sorry for the delay... a friend of mine said that Yancy knives were what got him into knifemaking, and is looking for one. Ideally he wants one of the scrimshaw ones.
