Been looking at the Vic Compact. Looks like a lot of versatility in a slender pocketknife. Anybody got one? What do you think of it?

are you talking about the victorinox compact knife?

I have one and I like it. All its tools cover your daily urban EDC needs. The compact's pen, pin, and small screwdriver are not included in most SAKs, so the compact is more than the average SAK

My favorite EDC. Possibly my favorite SAK. It has everything I need, nothing I don't. Love the pen, too. And I never use the smaller SAK blade, so it's absence doesn't bother me. Disappears in a pants pocket.

Yep, I have it and I love it. Can't go wrong there IMO.

Only way it could be better is if you could somehow have it in alox and still keep the tweezers, toothpick, corkscrew, pen and pin.

Well I can dream can't I?

It's a good model. I remember being underwhelmed at the thickness. Somehow, I expected this two layer model to be thinner. Definitely thinner than a Climber, I suppose the Climber has a little more added functionality, and if having a combo can/bottle opener with its space benefit is more important to you than having two separate openers, then this model is for you
I think that sometimes having separate openers is advantageous when using the can opener as a screwdriver because you may not necessarily want to use the same blade for food prep. From what I've read, the reviews for/against the combo toll are split evenly :)

P.S. Good points were made about the pen and pin

It's a great SAK. I prefer real, separate can and bottle openers over the Compact's combo tool, but that's just my own personal preference. Consider getting a "Timekeeper" - a Compact with a nice swiss watch added to the scale.

On the topic of the combo tool, I actually find it easier to open cans with this than with the dedicated can opener. On the other hand, while the corner fits really well in phillips screws (surprisingly well actually), the fact that it's the corner and therefore at an angle makes it rather awkward to use.

YMMV but I think the combo tool is a worthy replacement for the opener layer, all things considered.

The compact is one of the best!!

You get the hook with the file on it which is pretty nice

Yeah, I almost forgot about that. I find myself filing the odd nail or two, with the knife still in my pocket! Now that is covert!

The Vic Compact is my only pocket knife these days... Small, light and multi-functional. Great combo with my SwissTool X Plus for EDC. =)
