Anybody had any "hands on" experience with a DPx HEFT?

Hey Folks!

I'm looking for a new toy - a general purpose playing around in the woods knife with a full flat grind. The DPx HEFT Woodsman seems like what I am looking for. However, I have never actually seen or handled one in person and over the years I've dropped a lot of coin on knives that turned out to be varying degrees of disappointing....

So my question (actually questions) are: First, do these take and hold a serious edge (I'm talking scary sharp - something that can be push cut thru paper)? Secondly, I am seeing some ads saying that they are made of Niolox steel. Others say it's Sleipner. Are there significant differences between the two? How well do they hold an edge and stand up to impact such as when batoning?

I am looking for feedback from folks who have actually used 'em. Thanks in advance!

I have one and really don't like the ergos personally. I'm looking to trade mine. I will say though, the blade whatever it is (I had the same question as you in regards to the steel I believe it is in fact sleipner steel) is very sharp and very nicely flat ground. Seems like it would make for a very nice general camp/woods knife. Sorry I really haven't used mine so all I can really report on is the fit and finish. Which is perfect

Pleas forgive the thread necromancy, spelling errors and such. I got one, and honestly thought I got a bad one only because the edge was all wrong. I used it for ever at work, and a friendfixed the edge, from then on I loved it . I gifted it to my Son in a fit of stupid. But It served me well while I had it.

I have the dpx hest 2 the first thing I noticed were the bevels differed from side to side. I put her on the w.e. 22 degrees on each side now. Haven't used it yet, but it sure seemed to be a hard steel when I reprofiled.

I own three DPx knives--the HEFT 4 Assault, the original HEST, and the HEST II.

My HEFT fills the hand more than the other two, and it has an aggressive angle. Good knife so far. I'm enjoying it as I get to know it.
