I think the Blurs in 420HC (model 1670HC) were limited to Amazon, but I can't find any there. A quick Google search pulled up nothing for sale, and just two or three stock photos. Somebody has to have at least one of these. Let's see some photos so I know they exist, and that I missed out.

Could someone elaborate on this? I am assuming 420HC is a steel? How does it compare to the 14C28N (I think that's right, still learning) that's standard on the Blur?

420HC is a cheaper steel than 14c. I think it's supposed to be slightly below 440C and AUS 6.

420HC (high carbon) is what Leatherman uses in their blades (aside from the marked 154CM and S30V blades on the Charge models). It's a good steel, and indeed cheaper.

You can find them around, they aren't expensive even on the secondary market. I had one, sold it.

Looks like a regular Blur w/ the hollow ground blade. Buck also uses 420HC in many of their knives, including the standard model 110. Edge retention isn't its strongest feature, but it will take a fine edge and is easy to sharpen/maintain.

420HC is fine steel when heat treated properly. Buck and Kershaw have the best 420HC available.

So what would be the point of seeking out a 420HC Blur? Just for collecting purposes?

Building a Blur with 420HC will lower its price point to around the $30 mark. In fact I remember seeing these for sale on Amazon when they came out. It allows the consumer to buy a USA made Kershaw knife that is high quality and identical to higher end blurs with the exception of the steel. It is a way for a non-knife person to dabble in knives and begin their addiction to Kershaw, and the hobby.

So it's a gateway drug?

:D
