Anybody have a GEC single blade weaver jack and a regular GEC dogleg jack?

I recently picked up a single blade GEC Weaver jack in ebony, and while I love it, it just seems really light (I prefer heavier traditionals).

Now, I really (REALLY) want one of the GEC (Northfield?) spear point dogleg knives that came out a few months back, but I'm just wondering if they are more 'substantial' than the single blade weaver.

I assume that by adding a second blade (and the resulting spacer) that weight and width are added, does handle material make a big difference (bone being heavier?)

I have a GEC #48 trapper in jigged bone, and it might just be perfection. The weight and 'solid-ness' of this knife are great. I know the 48 is about a half inch longer, but would the 56 spearpoint with a bone handle be close?

Also, was the spearpoint dogleg ever made with bolsters at each end, or just bareheaded?

Thanks!

I've got both subject knives, and yes the ebony weaver jack seems really light to me as well. Suppose I'll get used to it, but I have given serious thought to getting one in bone just for better "feel". On the other hand, the ebony dogleg feels just right to me, though I don't have one in bone to compare it to.

At least two in ebony & gold glitter were made with front & rear bolsters. The gold ones are still available.

Eric, I can't directly answer any of the questions you asked, but I had to put in my $.02 anyway. I have a GEC #56 Dogleg Jack with the clip point main blade (smooth ivory bone) and it's one of the best feeling knives I own. It feels solid and fits my XL glove sized hand like a ........ glove!

Coyote,

After searching nonstop for the past three days, that exact knife was the only clip point version that I was considering. Based on what you posted, I just ordered it.

I guess ill be searching for a vintage knife to meet my spearpoint wishes...

Good to hear, Eric! ;) I don't think you'll be disappointed ... the "swell" end and curve of the Dogleg just melts into your hand. It feels "bigger" and better than most any other 3 1/2" knife, imo.

Edited to add gratuitous pics: Old comparison pics with a Conductor. (I like smooth ivory bone).

2 blade is my favorite to carry. Great size and weight

I only have the 2 blade Spearpoints/Bareheads. The Ebony Northfield feels a deal lighter compared to the bone Tidioute, the Tidioute is in constant use and I like it more than most knives I have, fits ANY hand really well I find.
