I recently picked up a single blade GEC Weaver jack in ebony, and while I love it, it just seems really light (I prefer heavier traditionals).
Now, I really (REALLY) want one of the GEC (Northfield?) spear point dogleg knives that came out a few months back, but I'm just wondering if they are more 'substantial' than the single blade weaver.
I assume that by adding a second blade (and the resulting spacer) that weight and width are added, does handle material make a big difference (bone being heavier?)
I have a GEC #48 trapper in jigged bone, and it might just be perfection. The weight and 'solid-ness' of this knife are great. I know the 48 is about a half inch longer, but would the 56 spearpoint with a bone handle be close?
Also, was the spearpoint dogleg ever made with bolsters at each end, or just bareheaded?
Thanks!
