I got two bluehealer pups the other day an my impressions are there crazy :D I've never had bluehealers before but I've had other dogs an there no compersion, these pups are 8 1/2 weeks old an there not afriad of anything they got to the nighbors cat, the cat was swatting the pups with it's claws an these little puppies were physically fighting the cat I couldn't belive it.

Then one time they ran up on the porch (thought they were gonna go inside) but I went a differnt way they ran to the other side of the porch were I was walking away from they looked around an then jumped a good 5 1/2 feet to the ground an ran as hard as the could to me.

Thats enough storys for now although I have more I don't even no what my question is, any bluehealer or any dog storys? Fuzzy pic. I got from my sisters facebook.

Being a dog lover is just that, and you are one. I have a similar distinction about Weimeraners. I had one over 20 yrs. ago. He was famous in our neighborhood. He chewed off dog eared fence boards to get out and roam. He knew the local elementary school because I walked him there at nights. He was rarely on a leash. He would steal sandwiches from the kids, (most fed him). I heard stories from my friend's youngest brother that the dog catchers tried to catch him but could not one day at lunch time. JD (Jack Daniels) just let them get close, and then ran just far enough as if it were a game to him. Anytime I would walk him, all the kids would say, "There is JD!" He would bolt home and be safe. He hated to be left home alone. He never liked his dog run. When he sensed that you were going to leave, he would jump in the pool and wait on the steepest step, almost as if he was saying, if you want me in there, you are gonna have to get wet. After 25 yrs. of being gone, my parents still have his picture on the fridge. He definitely was a pain in the butt, but was a great dog.

Gracie here, did her first dove hunt last September. She kept trying to catch the spent shells out of my 12 GA, and would burn her tongue. I was laughing so hard, It was hard to aim. I am already a bad shot to begin with.

Healers are great dogs. They are smart and loyal to the extreme. Lot's of folks say that they are a 'one man dog'. They will tolerate other people, but just barely. They are in it for you.

Being cattle dogs, you'll see lot's of them riding around in the back of trucks down here. Try to open that tailgate and you may lose your arm. ;)

I'll share one quick story with you about a friend's blue healer, Luke. Back in college a bunch of us guys, about a dozen or so went camping. Being young and foolish we all brought plenty of beer but only about half of us brought enough warm clothing and sleeping bags. As we all circled the fire for warmth, Luke made a point to circle us... smelling each one of us to familiarize himself with our scent.

Well, being young and all I suppose our campfire stories got a bit loud and a gentleman from a neighboring campsite walked over to kindly ask us to keep it down. Luke immediately realized that fellow wasn't one of us, ran and took a chunk of denim from the poor fellow's rear-end.

Naturally, we all apologized profusely, and the gentleman understood the dog was just doing what was natural to him... defending his pack (us) and no one got sued. ;)

I've seen healers attack feral hogs at a friends ranch in north Texas. The boar grazed one of them with a tusk slicing a 8" portion of her hide above her ribcage as if she had been sliced by a razor blade. My job was to hold her, a 40 lb healer, while she received the requisite stitches. It took all my strength to hold her down while they stitched her up.

They are tough, no nonsense dogs and act much bigger than their physical size. They have no fear that I've seen. Still, be careful with others around them because the one's I've known will bite. And everyone brings suit now-days. :(

I wouldn't have one around small kids: Kids like to run around alot, and blue heelers will heel them. Getting bit on your ankles from behind while running has the added benefit of the concrete face plant or the coffee table corner forehead crunch...just to name a couple.

Been a heeler guy for years. I grew up in a bad area of Dallas and always had Rott's to protect the homestead but as soon as I moved out in the sticks I picked up a heeler and I will never have anything else. They are the enegizer bunny of the dog world; they never quit or run out of juice. My last one, Shilo, hiked many a mile through the west texas mountains with my heeler in tow and he never failed me. Always on the alert for snakes, willing to fight off 2000 pound bulls, was in at least two knock down drag out fights with coyotes and the only thing that ever whipped him was a badger. Even then, after the badger whipped him, he stood off at a distance and stared him down like, "I could fight some more but you're lucky I'm tired" He was good with my kids if you don't mind the occasional heel nip when he feels they were getting too far from the house. He would give the neighborhood cats a case of the red a$$ when they were dumb enough to venture into his territtory. Lastly, he was the smartest dog I've ever owned and would star at you in the eye when I talked to him like he understood you. Sometimes, I thought he did. Unfortunately after thirteen years, he croaked about three months ago and I'm looking for another one :(

Thanks for the storys guys :)

kdstrick- the parents of these dogs were very "protive" the onwer did some type of hand movement an they both went inside there dog house an just watched us. An he told us about them "hearding" nigbors :D.

I can only imagine how much fun you had that day

I had them when I was a kid, blue and red. They were our cow dogs and they were very loyal companions.

Heelers are working dogs and need jobs, if they don't have something to do they'll find something to do and it's usually destructive. In case you haven't figured it out, they're tireless. I wouldn't think of owning one now. I love them to death and they are probably my favorite breed, but given my small yard and and their extremely high energy I think it would be a nightmare. A big enough piece of property and room to roam should be enough to tame their appetite for work. They're lots of fun.

We have over 100 acres of land an 70 something head of cattle, on one side of the road :p I hope they make good hearding dogs

I work for an orchard, and we have 25 dogs on invisible fences to keep deer out. Mostly Walker hounds, but we have 2 blue heelers, and they are indeed serious about their job. But the dog that patrols the most, the one that we have to lock in the kennel to make her stop long enough to eat or passers by stop to ask if we're feeding her enough, is the red bloodhound.

There are many blue heelers around New Mexico. Good dogs overall, and I've known a few that were calm and family-friendly. But they are usually very active. They need a 'job' to do, preferable a high-energy job that lasts for several hours daily, or they can become destructive and bored. Definitely not dogs to be kept in a small yard or indoors all day.

They also bark a ~lot~ if left unsupervised.

Thanks for all the replys guys :)

Took them on a hike today an got the first snow of the year I wish I had a camra.

Man, I wish you were closer then. I'm looking for one for my 2 yr old boy for Christmas. Oh well, thanks anyway. Not to get off topic but in honor of your avatar, check out these pictures I took a few years ago.

We grew up with these guys in Arlington and Vinnie and my brother have stayed buddies for all these years. They (Darrel, Vinnie and My brother) called me one day and said they were gonna be at a Harley dealership near San Antonio and said, "come hang out". So I went up and we hung out for several hours and BS'ed. They had just formed their new band and Darrel was all excited. It wasn't too long after when Darrel got whacked. Vinnie took it pretty hard, he even moved away from Arlington to Vegas after that.
