anybody have experience with spydie cara cara g 10?

I have not used the new G10 model, nice to see they are offering beyond the full metal ones though.

This was my post in the Spyderco forum.

I just recieved my Cara Cara G10 in the mail yesterday. It has good fit and finish, much better than expected for a $22 knife. The only quibbles are a slightly uneven grind on one side and the handle fit being very slightly off in a couple spots, but they are hardly noticable and don't bother me at all. The lockup is very solid and tight. The G-10 is grippy, not quite as grippy as a Manix or Military, but still very grippy. The edge was sharp but had a hint of a burr (it would shave great on one side but not nearly as well on the other), but a few light passes on the Sharpmaker at 40 degrees and it will shave and push cut newsprint with ease. I look forward to testing edge retention on this steel. I read that it is similar to AUS 8, and I'm hoping it is better than my AUS 8 CRKT's (my other beaters), considering it is run significantly harder. The bottom line is it is a great value.

Hi Cliff.

We have a G-10 version that we're shipping now and a FRN version due soon.

Spyderco's also making the smaller (3" blade) Meadowlark in G-10, too: http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=229

I like the look of these knives, a lot. The only real beef I had with the Byrd series was the stainless handles; using G-10 is a nice step up, IMHO.

One question for Sal: why is the G-10 as heavy as the all-steel one (5.6oz.)? Seems to me the G-10 should be a tad lighter.

Hi Gryffin,,

I haven't weighed a production piece. I would guess they would be a "tad" ligher, but G-10 models have steel liners, plus the weight of the G-10 itself, so there is some gain, but not a great deal.

The FRN version is lighter.

Nice to see G10 and Zytel, Zytel especially as some of these models are very well suited to the lighter construction in general.
