I've got one ordered. A Scagel folder repo. Made along the same lines as the original. It's made by Schatt and Morgan (Queen) with 1095 carbon steel blades. 4" closed. God, I just love these traditional folders.:D

So Scott when you gonna make 1?;) ;) ;) ;)
Cheers
Mitch

They have them at cumberlandknifeworks.com as well. I don't recall how much they were, but Bill Horn generally offers a very fair price.

I've got one of those and a few others in that vein. It has a pretty good heft to it. The blades are about 1/8 inch thick. No half stops. Kind of heavy for the pocket but a belt sheath works pretty good. My favorite of the Northwoods Scagel series was the single blade model. Ray Kirk makes one along these lines also. I'm sure considering checking him out for one, when my ship come in.

Thomason, nice!
If you want a Ray Kirk you might want to talk to him soon. I have 1 of Ray's on order & he has about 6 month waiting period, he's a really good bloke to deal with.
Cheers

Thomason, I love a heavy knife of that size.:D Boy can't wait to get it. Mitch, as soon as I can afford a milling machine, I'll be thinking about doing folders. Right now I want to supply people with hard use fixed blades.

Well I got mine today and it is very impressive to say the least. Quite a stout folder with thick blades and yes I'm going to use it.:D

How do you like it now that you've been using the knife?

Is it too big for the pocket?

The steel is typical of Queen's carbon steel. It holds an edge nicely and it is a bit heavy for the pocket. I ended up making a pouch sheath for my belt.

Scott,
Looks great! I wish I had one. Another item for the wish-list... I have to remember to keep bumping it back to the top. :D

Alex.

I wish I had one of those too!! I was about to buy one, then I had to spend money to stay at a hotel in anaother state, for a family funeral, and NEEDED the $$ for that.

I have two of each of the scagel repros, and a couple of the prototypes. I decided to invest in them when I confirmed how few were made. 150 of the first model 2-blade, 142 of the 1-blade (I carry one every day-perfect weight for my jeans pocket) and 200 of the big bolster 2-blade, and only 50 Ivory handled ones! The 4-blade should be out soon. So here are knives that will always be rare. Dave Shirley has the rights to the Scagel mark, and has promised the runs will not be repeated (all made by Queen). There is a fixed blade, but I don't collect straight knives. Get 'em while they last!

How does it compare in weight and heft to a traditional slipjoint, like a Case trapper or a Queen stockman?

It has quite a thick blade, and fairly fat stag, so it's about 30% heavier than a Case 6347. When I figure out the picture thing I'll post some!

I've got one. Its pretty nice. Well made. Thick. There's a knifemaker named Crawford, not Pat, who has recently made some nice Scagel folder replicas. Forget his first name, sorry.
