My mother swears up and down that my father wanted one for Christmas. Supposedly, he said he rode somewhere with a friend of his, and his friend had a satellite radio, and I guess he really liked the fact that there were no commercials. He could care less about Stern coming over, and would probably just buy it for the bluegrass and jazz stations. I just find this puzzling. This guy has never had cable in his house, we just got internet access in the past couple months. I just wouldn't expect him to pay 15 bucks a month to listen to the radio.

and I'm trying to find a way to put the radio in my truck to listen to Beetlejuice and Gary the Retard

Yeah, I got it about a week ago. It's awesome. I can't wait for Howard uncensored to come on. Now THAT'S going to be awesome!

I've had one for awhile. I spend most of my workday in a car, so I think it is not a bad investment. If I weren't in the car so much I probably wouldn't spend the $$$.

If your dad spends a lot of time in the car, or regularly buys a bunch of new cds to keep in the car, it might be worth it.

The only thing to keep in mind is there is a subscription fee that needs to be kept up in order to make the thing work.

I'd like to get it, but they dont make a mobile walkman-like receiver. I like to listen to the radio while walking around the house, outside, etc. You can get a Sirius reciever for the house or car, but no walkman-like device. They do make a jambox style, but I'm not going to be carrying one of those suckers around. Otherwise, I'd love to get a subscription.

best regards

XM has those portables, and would be my first choice for Sat radio anyway.

Blue - Ive seen that one, but it does not receive live Sirius unless its sitting in a base station. When used as shown above, its not receiving live Sirius but acting as an iPod or M3P player (i.e., replaying recorded Sirius). :)

Not interested in XM, as I want to listen to Stern (tho it pains me to admit it).

best regards

Hi powernoodle-

Thanks for clearing that up. As I was reading the description I was wondering if it could play "live" Sirius in portable mode or not. It didn't make sense that someone would "need" to have fifty hours of recorded broadcast material. It all makes sense now.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

how does the satellite radio unit make the connection with my speakers at home?

Mine has two ways to connect:

1. It has cords that plug into my stereo, or

2. It broadcasts over fm radio. I can set my sirius reciever to broadcast at an fm frequency of my choice and then turn my fm radio to that frequency.

I haven't ever heard Stern live; no one around here has ever broadcast his stuff. I have seen his show a couple of times on E!

XM has better news content, not to mention the NASCAR channel.

YMMV.

I gave my wife a Sportster Replay model for Christmas. I hooked it up to her office stereo and she loves it so far, she already found several channels of music she likes and she's looking forward to the new Stern show. We are taking her SUV in tommorow to get the car adaptor installed.

Radio here in Sacramento is simply terrible, everytime we went out in her car she would complain about it. She was listening to streaming audio on her computer in her office, now she has a lot more options.

I've had both. I currently have Sirius, only for the Stern factor. The music I listen to, mostly rock, is much better on XM. If not for Stern, I would be back to XM in a second.

i've been thinking of trying sirius, not just for stern though, i love him but he does get old sometimes, though must admit sometimes he's incredibly funny. though i'm sure some are around i have never met a woman who likes him, my wife cant stand him lol. but i do.

I really want Sirius especially since Stern will be on in January. Sadly it will be another 2 years before I'll be able to afford it.

I like to listen to the kind of music that is played on www.khyi.com I guess you would call this "Americana", although they play alot of classic country. Which of the two has the most stations like this? I really have no desire for Stern, so that wouldn't factor into any choice.

I don't know about XM, but Sirius has like 5 or 6 different country stations.

I got XM back in May when I got my Honda Ridgeline. I came with 3 months of free XM. I totaly love it!!!! Went ahead a ordered it for a full year. I can even listen at work over the internet. I looked Sirus at Radio Shack and didn't like it as much. Even with Stern going to Sirus:jerkit: I prefer XM.

I went with XM, because I enjoy listening to MLB games as much as the music.
