Here's a picture of the field that's next to our house:

The field goes all the way to the woods...

I didn't know that you lived on Loch Ness. I think I see Nessie in the photo! See for yourself.

:eek:To bad the markets so crummy you could sell your place as waterfront property.:D Are there any fish in that lake? It started to flood at my house but it all froze up and then it started snowing again. This winter has been weird. 40 one day and 10 the next. At least my heating bill will not be as bad as normal. I dont mind that its been warmer than normal but its looking like global warming up here.:)

Phil,
Here is a pic of part of my front yard. I have about 3 acres under water. We are on state road 14 in Whitley county.

Water coming over the road and into our yard washed out the stone along 200 feet of the road. I've got a lot of cleanup this spring.

Here's how it looks today. I think it's a little higher.

Here's a couple Google Earth images of our house and the field where the flooding is:

Our home is underground, that's why it looks so weird. :)

The black arrow in this picture is pointing to my current "hot work" shop.
The black rectangle is about where my new shop will be.

If I read that correctly, your shop is going to be where water is now. What accomodations will you make to prevent your proposed building from flooding in the future, Phillip?

How do you like the experience of living in an earth berm house?

You didn't read it correctly. ;) The barn site is at least 5 feet higher than the flood waters. It's even higher than the 100-year
flood level.
If my barn as flooding, that would be the end of Fort Wayne as we know it anyway, so I'm not too concerned.

Living in an earth-sheltered house is great. The energy savings are very good. We haven't even used an air conditioner for the last few years.
We heat it with wood, and use between one and two cords a year.
All our wood this year was free, except for the time involved in cutting it up...

This is really a great photograph, thank you for sharing it. I'm wondering, is there a stream running over the bank or just accumulation of rain?

No flooding down here but we dodge tornadoes.... bunch of debris from Prattville landed in our neighborhood and we live about 8 miles from where it touched down. People 20 miles away were finding stuff from Prattville in their yards.

Your welcome!
The flooding is caused by the Saint Mary's river overflowing. The trees you can see in the pictures are along the edge of the river.

Spring time may be interesting around here. We had alot of rain prior to freeze up, followed by quite abit of snow. It will depend on how fast the snow melts and how much rain will fall in spring. The house sits high here, but the problem is the road and the washouts we get around here.
