Heard that Fallkniven are releasing a new kitchen knife series boasting SRS15 high speed steel, with a center edge of FAX20 steel. They claim amazing performance characteristics. Thing is, I can't seem to find any info about these steels.

Any ideas, anyone?

According to Fallkniven's website, they are producing their new kitchen knives (K1 and K2) from VG10 steel. What you describe is a laminated 'san mai' (three layers) construction that is common in scandanavian steel making. However, I can't find any info about using this type of steel in Fallkniven's web site.

I also have never heard of those particular steels, but the numbers, names, and alloy compositions of steels made in Europe are somewhat unique. I suggest you check Sandviks web site and see if you can find anything about that steel combination.

Yup, the current models (K1 and K2) are VG-10 steel, but they have a *new* series coming out in March 2002 with the two new steels I mentioned. It will be a wider line-up with more models. Won't be cheap though, expected to be about twice as expensive (probably due to the steel and working it).

Yeah, I'll check Sandviks site (why didn't I think of that? :)). But I have the impression that a lot of Fallkniven's stuff is from Japan. Even VG-10 is a Japanese steel I believe.
