We'll be moving to Blacksburg in the summer of 2007, thankfully we've already got a house set up :). Even though 2007 is a long ways off, it's a done deal; my wife's family is from Bristol and my parents alread purchased a sizeable tract of land.

I'll really miss the winters here, so I'm trying to find things to replace it ;), a few knife makers in the area would make me feel better :). I know the Big Blu factory is in NC, so I can make the drive down there and pick up a hammer in an afternoon :D , I made that a condition of the move :).

I'd love to hear from some VA makers...

Hi Matt,

I'm just down the road a few hours in Knoxville. There is a large active forge group (consisting mainly of blacksmiths) in Bristol. There are a handful of guys in that group who are into bladesmithing. Also, nearby, there is Larry Harley, Burt Foster, John Williams, Jim Prill, and a few others whose names are escaping me at the moment. There is a Hammer-in each Spring at Harley's shop in Bristol and one at Ron Claiborne's shop in Knoxville. You'll be close to a lot of knifemakers. :)

Spent 7 years there... Bleaksburg... Haven't a clue as to what it's like now, but IIRC, Burt Foster hails from SW Virginia... Give him a shout!
