So I've been wanting to get my first official traditional for a long time, and I have an idea what kind. I'm looking for one with two blades of similar or equal size (Doesn't matter if the blade types are different, one can be sheepsfoot, one can be clip point, I don't mind) On one blade I want to keep a very fine, polished edge for carving, and the other blade with a slightly coarse edge for basic utility cutting.
Does anybody know a traditional like this under 150.00?

There are plenty of patterns that match your specs.
Trapper, moose, muscrat, etc.
And most can easily be found for under $150.
I recommend something from GEC...maybe the #48 trapper in stag ;-)

Yes, there are dozens of knives and patterns that would work. Can you be more specific for things like the closed length, whether you want both blades pivoted at the same end or opposite ends?

Well I don't really mind where they are pivoted, let's just go with the blades being pivoted at opposite ends. And size.. no bigger than a Buck 110 (I lost my 110 in the ocean so I don't know the exact length, but I think most of you guys have one :p)

Muskrat would fit these requirements.

Look at the GEC (Great Eastern Cutlery) # 76 Western Outlaw. GEC makes some of the very best production slip joints on the market:thumbup:

The #76 Outlaw caught my attention, do you know a good dealer online I can buy it from, I looked online and couldn't find one, I found some on ebay but they were already sold

Check out the Queen Copperheads. This is a pic of their Queen City Copperhead. 3 3/4" closed. Well below your budget.

A GEC #53 Furtaker, either muskrat (one blade at each end) or trapper (both blades at the same end) with one a clip and the other a Wharncliffe.

Furtaker trapper in burnt stag (around $125)

I checked it out online and seems like a good deal, whats your experience with the edge? I'm planning on doing a good amount of woodcarving

Don't know....I don't own one. Maybe others can comment.

Try Case yellow handled muskrat, trapper or even stockman(I know three blades).Case also makes a moose with blades at opposite ends. The cv blades take and hold an edge and are easy to resharpen. You will also have cash left over for a good supply of carving wood.

I just received a #76 outlaw in the mail last week. Great knife, perfect size in hand and great fit and finish.

I almost feel like you would be better off with a smaller blade for carving, which is why I'll recommend the Case Small Texas Jack.

That Queen is 1095 carbon steel, which you will find entirely satisfactory for woodcarving. The blades probably leave a bit to be desired though. I believe queen made some whittlers in that series though. Three blades but better configuration for carving.
