My parents have gotten to that stage of life where they are wanting to move out of their single family detached home into an apartment--so my Pop's is offering to give me an old drill press he has. It is a Homecraft/Delta/Rockwell floor model press, it only has a 1/3 hp motor, and it is a model AF 2476--which I haven't had much luck figuring out what that model # indicates, or anything else about it for that matter. So just looking for any knowledge feedback on it. I've been looking at a Powermatic 18" 2800b new press.

Thanks for any feedback.

Take it

You can always have one drill press for holes, another for countersinks.

Once it's yours you can figure out what's right and wrong with it.

I have my dad's old Rockwell Delta drill press, and it's a great piece of machinery. He got it around 1950. It's USA made and full of cast iron. The motor mount will handle a variety of motors, but the 1/3 HP motor on it works fine for drills up to 1/2" diameter (in metal).

You should grab this................ If it's a heavy, old beast in decent shape you can always upgrade it to out perform that Powermatic with a VHF and a 1hp (or more if you feel you need it) 3 phase motor and a better chuck and still be ahead a lotta $$$$$

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the feedback fella's. Corey that's the kind of thing I was hoping to hear.

Appreciate it.

I've had one for 40 years. I rebushed it when I got it and it still drills straight holes. It has an old washing machine motor on it which it had when I got it. Mine is a bench top but is mounted on a cast iron tractor rear axle housing. Heavy! Jess
