Anybody know if this hair brained idea will actually work??? CRKT Provoke customizing

So here is my idea. I was thinking of getting some acrylic red paint and doing a splatter pattern on this neon green Provoke Zap. Then I would use a clear coat to cover the "spatter". I would tape the blade, screws, and clip ring and just splatter the remaining section.

Any help before I run out and buy shit, would be greatly appreciated 😁🧟

Unless you can put a full clear over the knife it will likely just chip or peel off. And because the tolerance on that thing is tight you could be sorry.

You can probably get away with the red splatter (maybe not aesthetically) but tape the edge and flick the paint on with it folded up.

If this is a really good idea is another conversation.

It's just paint - what have you got to lose? Don't like it - wipe it off with solvent and try again.

Note that it won't be very durable even with clear coat if you plan on actually using your knife after.

Yeah, I did plan on occasional use. I think you have the right idea. As long as I don't gym up the works, I should be good. Thanks!

There are companies that do custom Cerakote. I see that blood splatter on green is one option some provide. I imagine this would require the current blade coating to first be stripped off (unless it is Cerakote already). Cerakote is pretty tough stuff.

EDIT: I thought you were talking about painting the blade.

Example (not my gun)-

Oh damn! That is perfect! Aaaasnd way to much to spend on my little project. But hell, thanks for the info for future reference!!

A cheaper option for splattering would be to take a Dremel, dig out some splatter designs in the plastic, then fill with red epoxy. Sand it down until it's flush so there won't be any problems with tolerances, and it'll last longer than clearcoat. It's a similar process for filling cracks in wood with crushed Turquoise or other gemstone material. The Provoke uses a thermoset plastic called Grivory, I don't know off the top of my head if epoxy bonds with it, so I would try one small spot first.

This thread made me think of a factory-finished piece that I purchased from a kind, fellow forumite. (these pics are from that seller’s sales post)D524C023-AF47-4742-ADCE-B150CDF929A7.jpeg09501F06-91FB-4F77-9D15-1D99104285E5.jpeg
