Hi, everybody! I have ordered my first Emerson knife after so many years longing (I live in a country where cops could find you guilty by carrying a slipjoint folder, so imagining the difficulties I had to go through to get the knife, aside from the extra cost:( ) Anyway, I am still waiting for it, a TAD GEAR and EMERSON exclusive Super Commander (Satin blade with black G 10 handle)! Though I've tried my best, I still couldn't find some specs of this piece (heard so many about the thinner liners and stop pins on the newer edition of the standard Commanders, I am really worrying). So, if anybody here have handled this piece or know more about it, please, enlighten me! I know I will soon get it in my hand but I just can wait any longer, how thick is the blade? How thick are the liners and everything! Please help me out! Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums, Ventriloquist! :) I must say, your first Emerson sure is a fine choice! The liners are a bit thinner than the custom version of the Commander, the ESM1, but it is nothing you should worry about! The knife has a 4 inch blade, and has an total length of about 9 3/4 inches. (I'm sitting here measuring MY Satin Super Commander, so I might be "off" a bit)

There are Emerson fans here in the USA who are looking for satin SC's, so I do not know if they are sold out or not. If they are, and you ordered prior to this, then you are indeed a lucky man!

Enjoy your Emerson when it arrives, but be careful!

Thank you very much for your quick response! I am so glad to find myself accompanied. Would you post some more specs when you done the measuring? That would be a great help for me to shorten the waiting, which seems to me like taking forever! I think dealing drugs would be much easier here than knives, really!

*I think dealing drugs would be much easier here than knives, really!*

Ventriloquist, I do not know which part of China you from. However, I know there are actually a lot of out-door goods stores and on-line shops in P.R. of China which sell good-quality imported knives, though their price may be much higher than in U.S., but there is no big difficulties in obtaining them. Special knives such as your Super Commander may have to be ordered directly from oversea, since the shops in China will not stock them.

Although there are laws in China restricting the sale and ownership of some knives - if you are caught with your Super Commander and if the Gong-an (Police ) think it is illegal, you may only have your knife forfeited or worst, spend some months in jail. However, the pentaly of trafficking of dangerous drugs in P.R. of China is death.

By making the above-mentioned statement of dealing drugs and knives in China, Mr. Ventriloquist, I think you are insulting your own nation and make people of other countries think that China is full of drug addicts and the Chinese government is much more willing to arrest innocent citizens selling/buying/carrying knives than drug dealers !

Ms. or Mr. lynxforces:

I don't know whether or not you are a citizen of P. R. China. And I would appreciate it very much if you could enlighten me as far as where a tactical knife could be sold legally. Yes, I know in certain big shopping centers some imported tactical knives are displayed in public and everyone could get one as long as he wishes to pay 2 to 3 times as much as their MSRP. The point is, as soon as these knives become your personal possession, the police could find you guilty for having a "murderous weapon" any time they want. If you think this is not true or not ridiculous enough to justify my figure of speech "dealing drug would be easier". I would like to learn your point. By the way, as a Chinese, I do love this country. But neglecting its existing problems is not the way I love, I trust that (covering the ugly side) would spoil a country (this has been done many times and I really do not feel like contribute any more). Besides, I appreciate your concern (that people may get wrong impression of China from me), though I think you have somehow overrated my influence on our fellow forumites (I trust that most of them are able to make their judgements basing on collective information, and able to tell a joke from serious statement. I also understand that your Excellency are an exception though.) Besides, if you really care to know the situation of drug proliferation in our great motherland, go to a disco and see how those kids shake their skinny, vacant heads! I don't have pleasure talking about this shameful situation 'cause it's sad, but it's a bloody fact! Fact that will still be there even everybody pretends it's not there and convince people all over the world that we do not have drug. So, my 2 cents for you: stop pointing finger at those who dare to say that you smell, take a bath and get rid of the smell 'cause neither covering nor sealing people's mouths is the solution!

(By the way, in case you are not able to tell: I understand that your Excellency do NOT smell, it's just a figure of speech and please do NOT consider it offensive or an "insult")

Dear Mr. Ventriloquist :

Thank you for your rapid reponse for my post. I am sorry if you found it was offensive to you.

I do agree with you about the drug problems in China (though it is quite out of topic in this forum), as in other parts of the world. There is no way to cover this situation. Everyone knows drugs exist in China and every country on Earth.

What I do not agree with you is your comparation of drugs and knives -as you have already mentioned that 'tacticl' knives can be displayed in public (shopping centres), but can you find drugs being displayed and sold in public ? There are several forums where knifenuts in China can discuss and share the joy of using and collecting knives, is there any forum where the youngsters can talk about the pleasure of taking 'head-finging pills' ? The penalty of dealing with knives and drugs are very different...you see, knifenuts in China are having a good time when comparing to drug addicts.

Oh, yes, there are something common between drugs and knives - you will be addicted to them (I only mean knives to you, unless you are fans of both :D ), they will empty our wallet and the cop will arrest you if they find out you are possessing drugs or knives (in China and many other countries).

Lastly, let me introduce myself : I am a guy (I think you already know), so please do not address me as 'Ms' next time - I will be very unhappy.:p You can also tell if I am 'a citizen of P.R. China' as I am so 'over-reacted' with your statement.

Since you are going to receive your first Emerson knife, I hope you will enjoy it. I have possessed several of them (legally, because of 'One Nation, Two Systems') and can tell you they are great knives. I am quite sure that your Super Commander will not be your last Emerson.

BTW, what is a Ventriloquist ? Is it named after a famous person or a profession ? I am just curious and really do not mean offense to you.

Dear Mr. lynxforces:

Thank you very much for your understanding, and I apologize if my previous reply sounds too aggressive(as I believe it is, for I have always problems controlling my wording when I feel my loyalty to my nation is being questioned). Please forgive me. I am really glad to meet my fellow countrymen here and happy to know that my interest is shared by many.

By the way, I am not drug addicted (never tried and never will). Though I must admit that I have been a smoker for many years (really feel shame for not being able to get rid of this habit). And I hate drugs with a passion, that explains my complaint on the drug situation in China. But as you said, that's not a proper topic in this forum so let me stop it right here.

Glad to know that you have already a considerable collection of Emerson knives. I wonder if you could please tell me the specs of the Super Commander? Since I haven't been able to find any website that could provide me the exact information on the blade / liner thickness, ground type, and washer material, etc. Thanks in advance! And if you don't mind, I may bother you often on such knife issues in the future.

Yours sincerely,
Ventriloquist

Yeah, I forgot introducing myself: as my understanding VENTRILOQUIST is kind of like a profession, people who can talk without moving their mouths. During the performance they usually use a dummy and pretend to be having a conversation with the dummy but in fact they are talking to themselves (moving the mouth while talk on behave of himself, talk without moving the mouth while talking on behave of the dummy). This profession can sometimes lead to double / multi personality problems so it's not quite healthy. My picking this name is because I am always too talkative :). So, that's it.

Ventriloquist, thank you for your reply and your understanding. I think all of us (Chinese or other nationalities) will be very 'aggressive' when one's loyalty to his own nation is questioned, since we all love our country and do not want her to be hurt - that also explain my over-reaction with your post and did not realise it is only a joke. I have to apologize again. Think about an old Chinese saying 'No fighting, no understanding'.

Ventriloquist is an interesting name (and profession), but please don't blame yourself being too talkative, as I think communication via computer is also a kind of talking to each other, posting on forum is like making a speech - if you really like talking, please post often so we can share your experience and pleasure in collecting and using knives.

I am sorry that I can not provide any information of Super Commander to you, since I have not seen the knife myself. At present moment, the Super Commander is offered exclusively from TAD Gear - you have to order from them (as you did) and the price is very steep. I don't think knives-shops here will stock it. If Super Commander is available in local knives-shops, do you think the staff will allow me to measure it ? :p

However, if I can find any information about this knife in magazines or other source, or if I am lucky enough to handle one, I will post on this forum so we can share the data and 'feeling' about this knife. Meanwhile, please be patient, I think your Super Commander will soon arrive (if they send it by airmail). I alway feel thinking about and waiting for something / someone you love is also a kind of pleasure - you know what I mean if you have been in love before.;)
