I just got a 15 inch Ang Khola from Terry Sisco and it has some writing on it. It says next to the bolster "S-N33 MADE K-G-R" I remember awhile back talks about a kami who could right and marked his blades. Is this one of his khuks? If so how old is it and can you tell me any history about this kami? It is made very well and thick like an Ang Khola is supposed to be! Thanks for any input!!:)

It's obviously an alien khukuri. A robot named S-N33 made the planet called K-G-R and this was a commemorative knife to celebrate the event.

I don't think John Powell knows much about alien cutlery like I do, so don't listen to him about extra-terrestrial khukuris (ETK).

Sorry, too much sugar this afternoon.

You did say "thanks for any input". didn't you? :D

Chris K-G-R was the only literate kami back then. The knives started getting serial numbers after Shop 2 got off the ground good.
I'm not sure about the numbering system but I would think you have the 33rd khuk made after the serial numbers started, if someone didn't lose count.;)
K-G-R stamped *Everyone's* khukuris as he didn't know any better. It was a pretty good joke as to the amount of khuks made by K-G-R. Seems as if he had the production market covered perfectly.
So basically what you have is just another 15 inch Ang Khola, nothing special in and of except the knife itself as all H.I.Khukuri's are special.:p  ;) :D

So...technically speaking Uncle, 'we' (as in those who buy khukris from HI) are paying for college???

Or is Sgt. Karka 'outside' the 'Uncle experience'??? I guess what I am asking is what does Sgt. Karka do?

He never did and still isn't. This is Sgt. Karka's kid and he's still in college.

LMRRAO.:D
Shows to go you what I know.:D
I really did think he was a kami though.:p

KGR stamps every blade. I know he doesn't make them all and my guess is he may be the only Kami who can read and write and may have an inkling of English language capability. This harks back to what I keep saying -- the guys over there don't place a lot of importance on who make the knife. The main consideration is "will the knife take a beating and keep on working." If it does this what matter is it to anybody who makes it? It is a different world.
Apparently there are new developments in the BirGorkha saga we need to be brought up to speed on

When Pala was getting BirGorkha on the air he hired Sgt. Karka -- a 30 year vet in the Nepal Army who knows where to get things and how to get things done. Sgt. Karka got a 6 month leave to help us. His kids helped, too. Oldest boy was just entering college and we helped him with books and tuition. He's the one who "signed" all the khukuris. I'm not sure if we still help him or not. Sgt. Karka is back on active duty searching for and destroying Maoists right now.

That was the 33rd knife to come out of BirGorkha and was most likely made by Kesar.

I didn't learn the real story until I visited BirGorkha a couple of years ago.

I'm proud that I have Serial Number 1 from Shop 2, which is also one of the 2 or 3 remaining chandan-handled khukuris ever made by HI and not later converted to incense

That one was most definitely made by Kesar. The chandan didn't last long.

I'm curious, what is this Chandan handle that you guys are talking about?

"Chandan" handled 21 inch Sirupatis coming.
Kami found some sandalwood (Chandan) and used it to handle four 21 inch Sirupatis made at shop 2. This might sound easy but it isn't. Sandalwood is very hard to come by because it is ground up for use in making incense. The profit margin is much greater doing this than using it for handles.
Because sandalwood handled khukuris are so rare one of these will go into my personal collection. That leaves three. They are in the air now so if anybody is interested in one of these let me know and I'll log you in. I'll post a report when they arrive.
Uncle Bill
Uncle bill's piece went to replace John Powell's, which cracked. I think another one bit the dust also. Pala ground up the cracked handles for incense on his last visit. Harry has one, if I'm not mistaken. I have one - Number 1 :D. Anyone else?

I don't know what became of all of them. Mine went. They were beautiful but very prone to crack for some reason.

Thanks Berk!!!!:)
I don't feel so foolish now.:D
I knew there had to be a reason that I thought KGR was a kami.:p

Luckily Sgt Karka's son didn't stamp them with initial K-G-B! Otherwise Berkley will be the no 1 suspect on CIA's list! :D

Pakcik Bill - Do you know what K-G-R stand for?
