Anybody know what type of ka bar this is?

Looks like a classic skinner. Not sure of the model though. Nice find!

I've seen those on ebay a few times. They're an old pattern with an aluminum handle. I'm sure Toooj'll chime in sometime soon with more info.

erik,

You have a KA-BAR Model #2000. circa 1923-30; Give or take a few years. Aluminum hollow handle with a compass in the cap. There was also a hard rubber handled version (#3000) and aluminum and rubber handled versions of the #71 blade shape (clip point, blood groove and saber grind) (#2071, #3071)
Hope this helps.

Sounds like a heck of a find. I think I need to keep my eyes open for one of these.

I am now the proud(?) owner of the KA-Bar being discussed. It has holes in the handles (as the photo shows). I believe the holes should be plugged or welded or the matches could get wet. Seller Erik stated holes are for a lanyard but I doubt that's the case. Reckon I ought to keep it anyway (paid $44)?

Question is: has it's value decreased substantially because of the holes in the handle?
Thank you
