anybody know why the HH 32 is gone?

Writing them would probably be the easiest way to find out. :) If it really is discontinued then it's probably due to old pattern tooling wearing out and demand being low enough not to justify the cost of having new tooling made. But to the best of my knowledge copy lathe patterns should last almost indefinitely, so that seems kind of unlikely.

so house handle, as far as i can tell, discontinued the 32 double bit, anybody know why?

I purchased several handles from them a couple of years ago. One of them is a 30" double bit.

Did HH offer a 32"? I honestly don't remember but kind of recall thinking that I wanted a 32" double bit to go with the 32" single bits that I ordered and the closest I could find was the 30".

Are we sure that it's not Tennessee Hickory or vicariously Beavertooth that offers 32" double bit handles?

Like I said, I don't remember well but sometimes we talk about them simultaneously. You are right though, I don't see the 32" on their site at all now but since it's not there I am questioning my own memory.

FortyTwoBlades notion seems as plausible as any. Maybe not a big seller?

I honestly don't remember but your question got me doubting my own recollection lol.

To clarify, the main reason I posited what I did is because it's a practice that's pretty common with items that require expensive tooling (that already exists) but have low demand. The company will keep producing a certain volume of the product to meet what demand there is until the tooling wears out, after which they retire that product rather than re-investing in fresh tooling for a low-demand item. But that may not be what's going on here--it's just the most common circumstance for manufacturers producing equipment using vintage tooling.

I think this is an accurate, plausible, probable, and likely scenario - I was just suddenly doubting my own memory.

And, of course, now I want a 32" double bit HH handle for no other reason that I can't lol.

A nominal 34" handle could end up 32" overall depending on the head and your mounting technique. Just a thought, if you are going by the length on an existing axe that you hatred some time ago...I at least mentally eliminate details after a while!

This archived copy of the House Handle site (from March of last year) shows only the 30" and 36" available. I looked a few years earlier, too, and it was the same.

i have a 32" on my little legitimus swamper, i know at least one was made, and i have a few in the cart on my other laptop, but i ordered handles from beaver tooth because i dont know if HH would send'm to me. it seems like maybe a seasonal thing or something

ok, i just sent an email to them, they said they dont make a 32, well then where the hell did mine come from. i know its a house because i remember ordering it, i can probably find it on my spending history

Far as I know HH is still offering, and/or making (or maybe they're just trying to clear out old stock) slip fit adze handles. You'd think 32" dbl bit straights would be a 'piece of cake' to run off (as needed) compared to ''once in a blue moon' orders for ultra curvy square eyed adze haft replacements.

Try the drift pick handle. It's 34" but you could hang it shorter. And as a plus there's no kerf so you can cut it as you like.

too lae, i ordered some beaver tooth 32s, an email said i takes anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks to get it sent, anybody know how long i can expect to wait for mine to show up?

Try Home Hardware. I have ordered handles from them. Pretty sure they offer a 32.
