The 2.7 was only offered in 20CV?
It didn't hold me back, but just wondering why.

Best guess is being a smaller knife it will never be used in a hard use role so the benefits of 3v would be not needed vs the edge retention and stain resistance properties of 20cv better suit the use of this design. I know I prefer 20cv for a necker style carry knife just because of the rust resistance.

That is my guess as well. How much firewood are you going to baton with a 2.7" blade? :)

Great answer, Psybull. Speaking only for myself, I really like stainless for small knives. If they ever make a stainless Candiru, I'd be all over that!!!

The 20CV also holds a better edge. No reason to sacrifice the edge on a knife for toughness on a 2.7" blade. IMO anything 6" or below, depending on application should be a candidate for 20CV (we are talking GSOs here), based on your application and climate. I will go on the record saying D3V might change that, but for today, all my smalls are 20CV.

Silver I used to neck carry a candiru and that was a nice little knife. If they made that or the izzy in m390/20cv that would be something.
I think I will stick with my necker/necker2 and hope for a 2.7 somewhere down the line though.

Thanks guys
Pretty much what I thought too but there are small blades out there in 3V & Infi as well.
This will be my first 20 CV knife...so I'm sure it'll hunt but I had to ask...

Oh, 3V and INFI work just as well in small blades as they do in large blades, as do 1084 and L6  But they just aren't as stainless as 20CV and the like, and many will take corrosion-resistance and carbides in a small blade in preference to high toughness that is relatively lacking in those others. If S!K ever grows, maybe they'll start offering the 2.7 in multiple steels :)

The above suggestions make sense.

On another hand, the machine shop could have had some space left on the 2CV sheets when cutting the 4.7s!

The last time I saw what was left after they cut the blanks, you would be able to make some S!K toothpicks.

I have heard the rationale for 3V in the larger blades and 20CV for the smaller blades, and generally think it makes sense. Having said that, I scooped up a 5.1 and a 4.7 on the Monday sales, but have the stainless in the 5.1 and the carbon steel in the 4.7 (flipped from the standard logic). The main driver was I got what was available for a few moments on a Monday, and was happy to get them. Regardless, both are exceptionally nice steels, and Guy seems to have worked out a heat treat and peened finish on this 3V that resists corrosion very well, and a heat treat and edge geometry on the 20CV that is very durable. Weekend hacks like me are not likely find the 20CV lacking in the larger 5.1 or a 6.

There may not be room left over on the sheets of 3V for a few 2.7 blades, but maybe some folder/flipper blades? Eh? Huh? Whadda ya think?!

My new style 5.1 is also 20CV, and the edge Guy put on it, the geometry is outstanding. Like, just awesome. Hands down I am glad the smallest 3V I have in a GSO with Guy's new profile is a 6 at this point. From my limited experience Guy will probably change the edge profile to get the performance gains out of D3V he is likely looking for. What it will take is someone to get a 20CV and a D3V in the same model, then measure and compare them. I have both ordered in the 6. Maybe someone else has something coming sooner than that. Perhaps a 4.1.

But it's not just Ohhh new HT now my exact same knife is better!

The reason I say this is you are probably all familiar with a knife company who uses 3V in a particular model where the geometry is far inferior to the other steel in the model line, A2 thus the performance gains of the steel are lost.

That is where S!K is at a disadvantage here. They can't react quickly to some of these innovations as the models are in production so long, as in steel is already cut and even ground, it's not likely they will scrap anything over a new HT protocol.

Finally some people are just going to want the 20CV for food prep and local climate concerns. I always prefer a stainless where appropriate.

I kept my necker II in boot, I had a 3.5 in 3v, cause I was worried it would get rust, so I ordered new spec in 20cv. I really love the 3v but an everyday user for me would be 20cv

I would buy a few S! toothpicks if they were sold. No sense wasting material. ☺️

But how long would you wait?

LOL

I can just see it, "I ain't wasting the effort to move that piece of chicken until my S!K toothpick gets here! It can rot out of there all by itself, for all i care!" :p

Someone a while back, when the knives were being laser-cut, made the comment about how awesome the left-over sheet of 3V looked with all the knife-shaped vacancies :) there was a cool pic of it, maybe someone on here will be able to find it...
