Anybody NOT have a ZT0566 assist spring break?

I have had my Zero Tolerance ZT0566 for over half a year. I am on my 5th spring. I can't complain about the warranty as they send springs as I ask and actually they sent me 6 the last time to keep me happy for a while. But WTF? How can this design be so flawed?

Has anyone had a ZT0566 that hasn't had a spring fail? If so, how long have you had it and how much use?

I know many have de-assisted their knives and are happy but mine doesn't flip very well without wrist action to help it without the spring.

I thought the knife had no detent so it needed the spring bar lest the knife open in your pocket.

Cannot comment on the spring as never had an assisted ZT yet, but perhaps a ZT0562 with ball bearings would be in order? 😜

sent from a highly secretive CIA base somewhere in the deep jungles of South America shhh

I had the same issue with my 0770 aluminum where the torsion bar kept breaking over time. ZT would send me new torsion bars and I'd fix it. Got tired of it and stopped using it.

ZT's manual flippers with KVT (caged bearings) are so good that I personally don't see a need for their SpeedSafe Assisted Opening. Right now, only their 0566, 0770 and 0350 models have SpeedSafe and the rest are KVT.

Good ZT KVT substitutes for 0566 would be 0450, 0460 and 0808. If you want something beefier try 0456.

Ive never had a torsion bar break in any knives. I cant say much for the 0566 in particular as i bought it deassisted.

Mine broke once. I would like to have it de-assisted, but despite claiming to have a detent, the detent ball is flush with the lock, so it is useless.

I've been too lazy to send it in to warranty or attempt to fix it myself. They were quick in sending me a replacement spring, though.

I was lucky enough to find one that flips well de-assisted. Definitely looks like a design flaw with all the frequent threads and posts you see about it.

Mine flips awesome unassisted, so the bar hasn't seen any action.

Such a shame they never put out a Ti version of the 0566.

I have a ZT 0566 that I have had for about a year and a half. No problems with the knife so far. I don't carry and use it every day but it does get carried and used.

I don't flip it open and closed unless I am going to use it for something, though during the original break-in period when it was rather hard to open, I did, until it was easy to operate.

I had my 0566 a couple weeks when I de-assisted it. It was ok assisted, but I prefer without. It now flies open when pushing straight up on the stop pins (just as fast as assisted IMO), but does need the flipper tab to be "loaded" a bit for the blade to come out quickly, similar to the 0560. Light switch will work, but not as well. I haven't had any ZT's break a spring yet :) I wish my 0300 would have worked de-assisted, but the blade just fell out.

The 0566 is one of my favorite blades.
