Guess the title says it all, but I'm looking for input on his blades.
I find it hard to buy things through the mail or the computer without seeing and picking them up so I'm looking to you to let me know your impressions. Thanks

check at Knifeforums.com in the Cane & stick forum with Jerry VanCook. I think he talks about his SV knife.
Good luck!

Here's the scoop on Voorhis knives. Very well made and he uses 5160 steel, so they should be pretty tough too. Get one from Steve and it will cost you a LOT less. Steve sells his knives very cheaply, but if you have to get it from another dealer, it has been doubled and tripled in price.

Thanks for the replies, I got ahold of Steve this weekend and placed my order, looking forward to the package coming to the door. After reading and looking at some of these other posts and sites and talking to Steve who was very easy to work with and talk to about what I wanted in my knife I'm trully looking forward to it. I'll do a follow-up on this when I get the knife and do some work with it. Thanks.

Yeah I've handled a few of Steve's knives, but what Danbo says is true.., the prices are somewhat prohibitive from dealers. I'd be interested to hear your review after you receive and use it. Hope it's a nice one!

Steve does do gorgeous work!!!

Got my knife this afternoon. Just as ordered, along the lines of a Randall Mod.1 but w/ 9inch blade, mycarta handle in commando shape with double forward curved hilt. Asked Steve to place point of balance just a hair forward of hilt, just right.
This as I told Steve was going to to be 75% fighter 25% field knife.
Workmanship was great. As was Steves work ethic and prices.
If you are thinking about calling this man , stop messing around and do it, you will not be disappointed.
I will add to this as I get a chance to work with this knife for a while.

Parachutist,
Any Chance you could post pics, the knife sounds awesome, and I'd love to see it. I'd like a Mod one, but in my current situation (grad student) I find Randall knives a little rich for my blood.

Hello, I happen to be the very proud owner of an awesome Steve Voorhis handmade First Blood style survival knife. This knife is very unique because the story is that Voorhis and Jimmy Lile, the original maker of the awesome First Blood movie knife, were friends and the particular knife I have is made the the most incredible quality and betetr than the others because it is one of Steve's first ones (maybe his first one) and he and Lile worked together on it via Lile was showing Mr. Voorhis how to make his Rambo knife. The one that I have is the very one which both makers worked together on. It is superbly made, awesomely heavy, and well balanced. It has the characteristics of the First Blood movie knife, the Rambo 2 movie knife, and the Sly II knoife which Jimmy Lile made especially for Sylvester Stallone for his collection. When I look at my Voorhis handmade knife, which is made with 5160 steel, has the split serrations, stainless steel knurled hollow handle, and the guard that resembles the Sly II, I can see Jimmy Lile's work all through it. It is by farone of the highest quality Rambo style knives ever made by Voorhis. This one that I have was made in the 80's. However, I don't care for the way that Voorhis leaves his para cord wrap loose on the handle but I do understand why he does it. But I did take it off and I attached my own brand new military grade para cord wrap on the handle. I used Desert Storm Tan color on it but I might be changing that to Black color this weekend. I will say this though; If yo haven't heard of him yet and you want a real high quality handmade survival knife that is Not a Rambo copy or tribute knife, by all means check out Andrew Clifford Survival knives. Andy makes the most incredibly high quality survival knives of all. His work is awesome and he also handmakes the sheathes for his knives too. They are custom made as well and are the most beautiful survival knife sheathes ever. You would do yourself greatly if you checked him out. Another awesome knife maker is Ray Matton. He is a great knife maker and he also makes the Rambo tribute knives but also makes his own designed knives too! Check both of these incredible knife makers out!
