I haven't had a chance yet to try their axial locking system, but Lone Wolf's build quality is very high. You won't be disappointed!

I agree that the quality of their knives is very good. My most used EDC is a Lone Wolf Double Duty and I REALLY use that knife HARD and nearly every day.

I have a D2 auto ranger. I am impressed with the knife on most issues including fit and finish, but I have noticed that the CPM S30V blade chips pretty easily. It's still the folder I use the most either at home or in the woods. I just like the way it feels in my hand. Just my opinion.

I own a Lone Wolf Harsey T3 Tactical Folder. One of the original ones with the micarta type grips.
Rock solid liner lock (with the LAWKS system). Very well made.

I have two of the Lone Wolf Loveless City Knives. I don't carry either one much but they are very well built and look good as well.

I appreciate the feedback guys, but does anyone have any "hands on" experience with the Protector?I mostly concerned about the locking system.

I'm pretty much convinced the F&F & quality are top notch.

I very much like the idea that they're made in the USA.

Also I've done my homework,as to the character & business practices of Lone Wolf & I couldn't find any "dirt"...after reading that really disappointing thread about a particular company/person in the GB&U,I can't be too careful.:o

:thumbup:Yea that one looks sweet & if I like what I see in the Protector, the T3 will most likely be my second.

I have a Paul with laser cut walnut scales and a Loveless City Knife. Both are well made and function very smoothly.

I have a Lone Wolf Paul folder and another from Doug Ritter and both are great locking folders. You can certainly trust the lock on the Protector. Its a good folder.

Paul's knives are superbly engineered products. Rarely do you find fault with one. I'm sure the Protector is probably one of the finest Paul knives ever offered to the Public. Both of mine are wonderful. I love the little S30V Paul/Ritter collaboration model I have. Its a great design, albeit a tad small. The Protector should be about right on size wise.

Lone Wolf is offering some good stuff. I have two of their DA folders, one the Diablo and the other the Harsey D2 and they are both nice working folders. I don't carry them of course but I like them a lot.

Thanks STR,How does that axiel lock work?Is it like a button lock?

I also have the smaller Lone Wolf Paul design and the lock is very strong. the only problem I have with it is that I pinch it between my thumb and first finger and swing it open and closed. Not really a problem just not easy to convince the boss that I really am working.

I have a T2 William Harsey, the smaller of the 2, still has a 4" blade though. I EDC'd this knife for a long time, I love it. Very nice, smooth and well built. I would own another Lone Wolf in a second. Good luck, hope you enjoy yours.

JTR, I have no first hand experience with the Paul Protector, but I sure do like it's looks. If you have researched the forums then I'm sure that you have read about some of the Paul knives developing bladeplay with no way to tighten it out. That would be my only concern with it. I have also read that people have the Paul knife and it works perfectly and has so for a while. It seems that it's the luck of the draw. It also seems like the knife is fine for a week or so, and then develops the play. I would just be sure to buy from a repetuble dealer who will take it back if this happens.

I know this sounds negative, but I hope you get a perfect version of this knife if you go ahead and get it. Btw, the new Knives Illustrated has it for their cover knife on the newest issue. I haven't read the writeup yet but it is one nice looking "Gentlemans Tactical"!!:D:D:D

I owned a Paul Prankster for about two days before I had to return it. The Axial lock developed play, as did the blade, with only two days of pocket carry. It's not like I was abusing the knife; I was cutting paper and ONE cardboard box. Then when I went to open it, the blade had a lot of play up and down, as well as side to side. A $130 knife shouldn't develop play after two days, especially when my $20 Kabar Dozier is still rock-soild after two years. Wobbliness isn't acceptable, especially at $130.

I put up a review before (and after) the blade play issue here... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=584769

Appreciate the feedback guys:thumbup:

Both the pos & neg.

Blade play is a big issue with me,but I am buying from a reputable dealer.

Hope I get a good one.:o

+1:thumbup: I hear that!...worried a little:o

Thanks for the link of the review JNieporte:)

Hope I'm not ressurecting a dead thread needlessly :) I've been wanting a paul axial lock knife since I saw the gerber pauls in an AG russell catalog years ago. I finally got to handle an original (read, OLD)paul at a local show recently. The thing was well used, blade half gone from sharpening. The knife had no side to side or vertical play at all. It DID however jam closed on me. A bit of oil and some tapping latter and it it freed itself right up. It had apparently not been oiled in some time. I'm hoping to pick up a Lone Wolf prankster soon, I'll be sure to review it once I get it.

I have an original Gerber Paul knife and the axial mechanism is still solid with no side to side play. Opens and closes with one hand and just needs lighter lubing from time to time. Better to not use heavier lubes

Can't speak for the newer Paul's but I have a Two Lone Wolf Lobo's and so far they have both been excellent knives and problem free. I have large hands and the feel is great as is the craftsmanship. I love the DA model. The spring has to be felt to be believed - it hits hard
