Anybody Prefer the BM 710 in 154CM over D2?

Just wondering. I have a 710 in 154CM and love it. Just wondering if it's worth it to go up to D2.

Well, it goes without saying I prefer M2; but, as to 154cm versus D2, I prefer 154cm.

Seems Benchmade does a better heat treat with the 154cm than D2.

I've been playing with a D2 variant a bit lately and I am not awed and am a bit annoyed as it is the first D2 knife I have had that has showed a couple of rust specks.

But, I could be prejudiced as I think D2 is over-rated at the moment.

+1, D2 whilst a popular 'catch phrase' at the moment is nothing special.

I own both. I'm doing all the EDC with the D2 model just because it's current production. I have two 154CM's stashed. So I can't speak to edge retention on this knife model specifically but I will say the D2 knife is one of the sharpest knives in my rotation. Probably due to edge profile or whatever. Regardless, I prefer the 154CM's which both pop hair as well. I stropped all three last night and the 154CM's feel shaper than the D2 even but they aren't in my rotation right now.

The 710D2 is a really, really good EDC for a really, really fair price.

I've gotten some pitting on my in-pocket D2 blades - none with 154CM.

That's why I picked up a 710 in 154 CM when Knifeworks came up with some. I'm very happy with them. My D2 710 is now on the "back-up" pile.

I like the 154cm. It is easy to get sharp and takes a very good edge. Good Luck! Kevin

154cm and VG10 are my two favorite steels. Why? Because they are easy to sharpen and have resonable edge retention. I recently got a BM 710 with a D2 blade. I have tested it out pretty well. Green wood, cardboard boxes, paper, plastic banding, denim, hemp rope, nylon rope, 10 foot of carpet, pine 2x4, an old seatbelt. This has not been a long term test but it has been a good test that I have put other steels though before. Results - This D2 has held up really well. For a sharpness test I come back to a 3x5 index card as a standard. Also the hair on my forearm. So far the 710 D2 has held an edge better than any steel I have tested. Still have not attempted to sharpen it. I may or may not be dissapointed after I have to sharpen it. I admit that I am not a sharpening expert.
