Anybody rescale an early Spike?

A nice set of scales would look a lot nicer than some string wrapped around the handle. A few more holes in the handle would be needed though to attach them. Nice old blade you got there,
Congrats and can't wait to see the finished knife.

A 1/8" carbide drill bit, some coarse black G10 scales for maximum grip, and a few 1/8" threaded spacers with screws at each end to secure the scales.

Taking care that the scales didn't interfere with the knife fitting into the sheath.

Or, like jlauffer said, Plastidip. Cheap, fast, easy, readily available, and very grippy.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Plastidip vs drilling handle to install G10/Micarta, gotta do some thinking on this. I still want a NIB one for the collection so modifying this is not a concern, hmm.

And you would need a drill press (don't know if you have one or access to one). Trying to drill decent holes in hardened steel with small diameter carbide bits and a hand drill is pretty dicey. Possible, but dicey. And carbide bits are brittle and can break easily.(more reason for the precision of a drill press).

A few tips on Plastidip if you've never used it (or anyone else reading this)- Read and follow the directions (they're important). A single coat/dip looks thick when wet making one think one dip is all that's needed, but this stuff dries very thin. I always use a minimum of three dips on my fixed-blades.

Store the unused dip in a new, clean glass jar as close to the same size as the amount of dip left. Plastidip is just rubber liquified by a liquid solvent. That solvent wants nothing more than to evaporate. The can Plastidip comes in will not be airtight after opening, especially not with the Pringles can type of plastic lid it comes with. The solvent fumes will warp the plastic lid. And the more extra space there is in the jar with the dip, the more room the solvent will have to evaporate, causing the rubber to become thick.

I get my jars from Hobby Lobby. They have a wide variety of sizes, a few bucks apiece. I get my Plastidip from Home Depot, I think I've also seen it at Walmart. Make sure you read the can to get the color you want.
