no markings sharp as a razor and has stayed that way with many hours of use

yes, I have never seen anything like it, I was at the flea market, it was 2 rows over in some guys hand as he was looking at it, the second he put it down
I bought it, values not important, I would just like to know if its custom or if its factory and has a specific use.

I'd call 'hand-made' as well. Looks like it is probably carbon steel, and Boy! is it thick!. Looks like you got yourself a good deal!

Use it, enjoy it, and pass it on to your kids one day. :)

To my eyes it looks closer to a Japanese design called a Nata. Basically a small hatchet built in a knife style. Only the original maker could say for sure though whether it's a Nata or a cleaver:)

Kinda looks like a bigger version of my sheffield england hacking knife. Very cool looking whatever it is.

Looks japanese to me also. Probably marked on the tang.

I was thinking it looked like a Nata as well but it's quite a bit shorter and thicker then any that I've seen.

With guidance from this forum and Google what I
found is its a Japanese Nata for Ikebana, I was able to
find a coulpe exsamples, so only 2 out of the whole google
universe, the oods are it could be something else but I
think Nata is a good call, and since its unmarked most likly
generic

Definitely looks like a Nata. I'm thinking its been rehandled based on the ricasso fit.
