I was hunting for a file on the Cooper Tools - Nicholson website and noticed that they make machetes. Has anybody seen or used these. It is a heck of a brand name. Does anybody know where they are made?

I don't know, but Cooper did buy one of the old Collins tool factories in Latin America, a few years back. They market them as Nicholson by Collins in a few markets.

Thanks for the link Bob. It answers a lot of my questions:

"Empresa Andina de Herramientas S.A. is a company of Cooper Industries, at the Cooper Tools division. Coopertools has more than 150 years of the experience in manufacturing Hand Tools with industrial quality and advanced technology. Empresa Andina de Herramientas is located in Cali - Colombia, South America, and from there we supply clients in Colombia and the world. Our most known brands are Nicholson, Collins Nicholson, Atila, Atkins, Crescent, Weller, Lufkin, Plumb, H.K. Porter, Wiss, Xcelite, Erem, Diamond, Farrier, Wire-Wrap."

The quality of some of the old latin american Collins machetes was pretty good. I'm interested in buying one of these. They don't cost a lot, but they should cost more than average for shipping. I'd like to find one in a brick and morter store. Has anybody seen them on store shelves?

Oh well, the Cooper Hand Tools website is down this morning so you can't see the picture or catalog. Has anybody tried one of the Legitimus Collins machetes made in Colombia recently? I guess that this is the same. I think that the one that I had was from the Guatamala plant.

The Cooper website is back up now.
