Greetings,

I have been reading up on the H1 blade steel and I decided that I would like to give it a try. I know that Spyderco uses the H1 in their Salt series (Pacific Salt), but I've never been a big fan of Spyderco knives. I don't have anything negative to say about them, it's just that I personally don't care for their looks.

I was more interested in Benchmade's 100 H2O Dive knife fixed blade, but I am still a little ambivalent on its look. Now I find that Benchmade stopped using H1 for the H2O. I could probably still find a Benchmade in H1, but I decided to search the web to see if anyone else was using H1 steel.

Searching in Google I discovered that Tusa is making a dive knife in H1, the Tusa FK-230 I think it’s a pretty good looking knife (although the line cutter near the tip worries me a little). Most places are listing the knife for about $75, but ScubaMart is selling it for $68.99 Not real cheap, but not too bad.

Before I shell out the money for a pretty specialized knife, I was just wondering if anyone had actually tried one of them? If so, would you please relate your experience with the knife. Thanks.

The only difference would be in how the company treats the steel.

Looks like a decent knife for the money. Nice looking tang and solid butt screw.

I like how it looks easy to pull apart for cleaning, and that its pointed.

I have the spyderco salt, take it to work at the beach everyday and i dont even rinse it. No rust since june, and still is pretty sharp after cutting a good bit of rope.

That is a good price for that knife, and it looks like a nice one. I'll tell ya though it's still more than you need to pay. I've got a smaller UK Fusilier I paid about $25 from Leisurepro 7 or 8 years ago ($26.95 now). I've got about 150 dives on it. Cuts the occasional line or monofilament like a breeze. It's made out of 316. I take the handle apart once a year and wash it and spray it with silicone. No rust. Just rinse with the rest of the gear after dives. That's all you need, unless you're into heavy wreck penetration, etc.

Moxie,

I have about a half dozen dive knives, so need is not the point. (For diving I usually use my big old Aitor chisel tip dive knife.) I just want a knife made of H1.

I was at the beach yesterday and, as ususal, I took my EDC folder out of my suit before I went in the water. At that point I realized it would be nice to have a folder that I could wear while swimming and never have to worry about it rusting. So, when I got home I ordered a Spyderco Pacific Salt (despite how the look). I'll still have to try out a Tusa knife though.
