I wouldn't waste anymore money on cold steel:thumbdn:.Looks like a mall ninja meets clown knife.

It's not that bad. I handled one for awhile, haven't purchased yet. I don't like how the pocket clip is setup. Puts the knife way too low in my pocket for any type of effective draw. Nice fit/finish and the one I handled was very sharp as usual. It would fit a variety of uses and the grip is very secure. I like the way it looks, somewhat like a mini-Rajah! :D

I just got one in the mail yesterday. It's a brute of a knife that
has a very strong looking lock. The handle feels great in the hand
and it's a neat but large knife. I believe it weighs 7 ounces.

The knife opens fairly quick for a large knife, but still has the initial
resistance to opening due to the modified lock back design. It snags
on the "wave" easily and opens very fast that way though. It does
come apart, as it is held together by allen screws. Keep in mind that
you might not get an unbiased review of it around here(as above) as most hate Cold Steel. I say buy it, it's inexpensive, original and just plain neat.
Handle it if you can first though as it's a very bulky knife.

I couldn't help myself and bought a large Espada and a Rajah II. I am sold on the tri-ad lock and the size of these knives. For the money, you get alot of knife. I say if you like it, buy it. You'll get naysayers, but it's your money, and only you will find happiness with your purchases.

I have a lot of Cold Steel knives (since the late 1980s) and have used nearly all of them hard - mostly yard, garage, and household use. All have been very sturdy, take and hold an edge, and are good value for the money. My CS knives are the more 'utilitarian' designs: Tanto, SRKs, Recon Tanto, Voyager folders, etc.

Folders like the Spartan seem a bit more like a 'fantasy' knife than a real practical folder. Of course it depends on usage and what a person desires, but I would recommend instead a Voyager folder or one of the CS's more practical designs that are based on utility or hunting application.

Regards,
Mike

It was on my list. It might have just sat in my collection since I have plenty of other knives that are actually useful but the price is right for such a purchase. After 2 emails to Cold Steel with no response it has been scratched off of the list along with the few other products they make that I was considering.

Sure I could have called them but if they offer an email contact I expect them to answer it. There are too many great knife companies with great customer service to put up with anything less. I'm the kind of customer they wanted to keep as well since I can overlook the labeling and namecalling they are usually blasted with if I find the knife appealing. I had a few of their higher priced product in mind as well.

In an attempt to not be viewed as completely trolling, no I have not tried Cold Steels Spartan.

Don't give up! Give them a call, I think they have great customer service.
People get busy sometimes.
I had the same experience with Benchmade and I still will buy their products.
The Spartan is a great knife(so far), I'd get one.

Yes, I have issues with Cold Steel, but it doesn't stop me likin my Spartan. It's big and a bit odd for general use, but IMO is a winnnig self defense design. The recurve blade looks nasty and is. The hand is held firmly from ANY SLIPPING forehand and in reverse grip, stabbing and slashing by that "strange" looking handle. Very very secure grip. The clip does carry it very low in the pocket. The lock appears just about failure proof. It also is very resonably priced on the internet.
Is it replacing my CR Sebenzas, Emersons, Striders, Spydercos, Benchmades etc. No!
I usually carry and use several knives daily for chores and the Spartan is my current defensive daily choice.
Handle one and you may like it too.

Ummm... what good is this post? I mean if you have no real experience with a knife, why post up what you might think about it?

Just visited my friend this weekend, and he had a new CS spartan.

The lock is very strong, the blade is thick and heavy, which I appreciate. I don't care much for the looks of the handle or pocket clip, but the handle feels secure at least.

My friend noted that he got a small chip on the edge, near the tip as he was testing the knife out on a couple small twigs. That could easily be sharpened out.

Pretty decent knife, and he likes it, I'd say for around $50 on the internet go for it. I believe my friend paid closer to $70 from a store, they wanted to charge $90.
