Just a curiosity...someone from work gave me a BudK magazine last night full of fantastic cheapo garbage that I would never spend my money on. If they expound on the wonderous qualities of this authentic samurai sword for only $39.99 suffice to say I'm a bit skeptical...

However I do like the looks of some fantasy knives and there has been many a sword I found attractive I just can not bring myself to spend money on something I know FULL WELL is COMPLETE CRAP! I mean IF I bought one of these swords I have no intention of dueling with them or using them for anything but a display piece...but being a blade freak and a vehemenant anti-cheapo junk crusader I wondered what you fellows thought about it. I found a site that sells functional (well made) replicas of movies words that go for $800-$2000 but obviously the price is jacked up by lack of availability.

What would you guys charge for a well made blade? Say 30 inch blade overall length around 40-42 inches? Spear point double edged with a fuller old european style? And what about axes? Not chop down trees axes but war axes and such? There must be some kind of market for REAL replicas rather then the United Cutlery junkers so what do you guys think?

I do not think many people on this particular forum make swords Gawker, there is a sword discussion forum, look in the menu. You may get more response there.

Check out the sword discussion area. Also, realize that a well made sword can cost a lot.Equipment to do a 40" blade is usually custom made. The skill to do one only comes with experience. Both are expensive commodities to pay for.You can buy $39.95 Pakistani katana on Ebay. You can also spend $50,000.00 for a top nihonto katana,$2000-$5000 for an average one,$1000 for a Bugei katana.European swords are somewhat cheaper, but a quality made one will still cost you.
