Hey everyone,
Does anyone have experience using a type of tomahawk for wood processing? I'm wondering if one would work well enough in place of an axe, hatchet or saw. I would probably only use when camping with the family at an established site. I use my Fiskers hatchet most of the time, but was curious about trying something new. And if anyone does use them, can you recommend a brand? Thanks

Most folks get a Cold Steel hawk of some sort and then get a H&B when they decide they like hawks and want to upgrade. The CS hawks need extensive fitting right off the bat before you even use it. I got an H&B from a third party vendor and it needed a little bit of fitting but not nearly as much as the Cold Steel ones.

I have a few Cold Steel hawks. The only one that came close to being a smaller diameter splitter for me was the Rifleman. I sawed and ground the hammer head off the back though. Short, stout, medium heft. I have an original round poll belt axe from the late 1700's that I found while metal detecting and those H&B tools look pretty traditional, and have the size/weight to do the same job I would bet.

Well, I guess in a way if the Shawnee works that well it's irrelevant. I should buy the one that I know works.

I haven't had time for an overnight outing in a while. I tend to use the same tools for cleaning up brush around the yard as I do for light weight camping. In cleaning up stuff and burning it in the garden I find myself using a sog fasthawk a lot this spring . I picked it up with a home depot gift card some one gave me . I didn't expect much from it but am impressed with it as a small chopper
