Anybody use The BladeSharpener?

gearfreak: I havn't tried it but it sure looks interesting. I like the ideas of clamping the blade and using bench stones.

This is certainly an interesting sharpener! It will probably give the Edge Pro a good amount of competition if word of this thing comes out. The system looks like it would work real well, and the stones are ordinary Arkansas stones... easy enough to replace.

This looks like it has the worse features of the EdgePro and the Skarb. Worse feature of the Skarb is that the scratch pattern is parallel to the edge. This results in an edge that has less strengh. Worse feature of edgepro is that your sharpening upside down. Stone on top.

I think if you like this sharpener you would like the Skarb better. Accomplish the same thing with the Skarb for half the price with more advantages. Use any stone, and knife on top, knife is moved not stone.

The main problem is probably that it clamps. Inconsistant angle. Looks interesting, but I would stick with the Edge Pro systems. The BladeSharpener is just too bulky, and the clamp isn't versatile enough (can't handle short blades, etc.). Also, the stones won't get as fine, and you need to strop to mirror polish on the Blade Sharpener. The Edge Pro uses polishing tapes which are held to the same angle and will not blunt the edge like the strop can if you aren't careful.
